That was the point.I do not find the swearing in Picard or Lower Decks out of place at all. I did find when Kirk called the Klingon a Bastard way out of place. I felt it was kind of racist.

The man's son had just been murdered, I think he can be excused an inappropriate comment on the matter.I do not find the swearing in Picard or Lower Decks out of place at all. I did find when Kirk called the Klingon a Bastard way out of place. I felt it was kind of racist.
In the current day military, every "damned" in that exchange would instead be "fucking".It was very dated by then. The ballpoint was popularized in the late 1940s.
This quote from http://www.chakoteya.net/DS9/527.htm needs to be included in this thread! From the beginning of DS9 "Rocks and Shoals":
Personally if I didn't mention the swearing it was because I tend to group all that stuff together in one 'got the tone wrong' pile. They're walking around pitch black starship hallways, the captain is an asshole, Worf is praising Section 31, folks are getting murdered all over the place, Starfleet security is beating up Riker. The use of language doesn't help, but fixing it wouldn't resolve the larger problem. It's not until the third season that we start hearing Picard and the other TNG characters saying words like fuck or other forms of profanity they wouldn't have used in TNG, which curiously is not complained about by anyone who took issue with "sheer fucking hubris" previously.
No, even if the FCC didn't regulate profanity at all, the advertisers would. The only reason people didn't really swear on Star Trek until the end of Enterprise was the FCC, let's be real. Even the TNG cast would have dropped several F bombs had they been allowed to. You think the Borg could have cut into the saucer like they did without someone on the bridge freaking out? The woman sticking out of the floor? Beverly seeing dead bodies rise in the morgue? Barclay's obvious sex with Troi and beating dumbass Riker holodeck programs? Everyone almost dying from radiation poisoning or various curious or confused aliens?
Oh my god! You killed Redshirt! You BASTARD!Realistically Kirk would be expected to shout ''Son of a BITCH!'' every time one his guards croaked in THE APPLE, but that SOUTH PARK touch would certainly kill the drama of it all.
