Star Trek Novels in Germany

I was wondering, are there any Trek books that were only published in German? Or are they all translations of novels originally released in English?

Kor

All of them are translations from english originals (pocket books).
There is only this one german trilogy (Prometheus), that's now translated into english.

There is the Prometheus Trilogy by Christian Humberg & Bernd Perplies. The trilogy was originally just published in Germany, written by German authors as part of the 50th anniversary. There are translations now into English, edited by @KRAD
Everything else was first released in English.

Any of you guys familiar with Raumpatrouille Orion?

Yes. Next time when a name change here on the forum is possible I will change my name into Leutnant Tamara Jagellovsk. Not next Halloween, though. There I have something different in mind. :D

Ah good. I've seen a few episodes, but I think it's virtually unknown here in America. Was it a popular show?

Wikipedia says that there are quite a few novels based on the series, and I was wondering if 1) they are any good and 2) if any are available in English.

Yes!
The german TV Station Tele 5 (that shows 3 Star Trek series every day) showed the whole Orion Series this New Year.
I taped it and put the complete series on DVD :)

Novels? I never read one. But I think, there were some novels in the 60ies / 70ies.

Yes, it was successful in the 60ies, with about 20 Million viewers. But it just had 7 episodes, and they never brought it back with new episodes or some kind of "next generation" :(

I have looked it up on Amazon.de. There are books about TV episodes and books called "Jugendbücher" (juvenile books). I don't have any of them.
I'm not a fan of Raumpatrouille Orion, but I love the Intro:

20 million viewers sounds pretty damn impressive. I wonder why they didn't produce more episodes? The decisions of tv executives are just as puzzling in Germany as they are in the U.S. apparently.

That theme song kicks ass. It's a nice mix of brassy jazz and funky organ. The 60s were the golden age of tv theme songs.

Here's what wikipedia says about the books:

In 1968/69 adaptations of the seven episodes of the television series Raumpatrouille, plus five original stories, were published in Terra Taschenbuch. Additional new episodes (#13-35) were printed as separate paperback series.

Since 1972 the episodes were reprinted and continued within Terra Astra, outsourced to a separate dime novel series and finally again reintegrated into Terra Astra (145 volumes in total).

I guess the whole SciFi business was already dominated by the Americans. Trek became more popular over the time. I can't think of other German SciFi shows. Germany today is ruled by Daily Soaps (uggggghhhhhh). Many many years ago Brazilian Telenovelas were in vogue like Escrava Isaura or Sinhá Moḉa.

In the USA we went through a long stretch of "reality" tv shows, but scripted television has made a roaring comeback over the last few years.

I've only seen a few German science fiction films. We (1982) and Welt am Draht (1973) are the first two that spring to mind. Metropolis, of course.

The USSR and its satellites produced some interesting sci-fi. I don't know how much of it was accessible in west Germany at the time though.

@marlboro
You mentioned the Terra Astra magazine.
The Terra Astra magazine was a weekly Science-Fiction magazine in Germany in the 70ies. The Orion-storys were published there, but also Star Trek.
In the opening posting, I listed the Goldmann-novels. They reprinted the old Star Trek storys (from James Blish) - that were originally in the Terra Astra magazine.
Here is a list of all Terra Astra magazines: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terra_Astra
No 52 (1972) had the first Orion story (by Hans Kneifel), No 213 (1975) the first James-Blish-Star-Trek-novelization.

Neat. I see some familiar names on that list. Clifford D. Simak, Poul Anderson, L. Ron Hubbard and more.

Unternehmen Vernichtung
is Operation: Annihilate, I assume?

I enjoyed the Perry Rhodan stories when they were translated into English.

When the English translations ended I did consider learning German so I could continue reading them.

But I'm hopeless at languages so didn't bother in the end.

Oh yes, Perry Rhodan is THE german scifi series - but only in literature. I'm sure, it would make a great TV-SciFi-Series, but I don't see any chance, a german TV-station would produce this :(

Since 1961, there are 3000 Episodes of Perry Rhodan, plus 900 of the Spin-Off Atlan.

Cross Cult has added two more novels for 2019: November Rise of the Federation 5 - Störungsmuster. Dezember TNG Hearts and Minds.

3 Captains 3 Geschichten: I'm wondering what this is about.....

YES!!!!! That's something, I was waiting for.
I'm sure, they put together three ebooks into one big novel.
So I will finally get to read them.
I guess, it will be these three storys:
Next Generation X James Swallow Der Stoff, aus dem die Träume sind The Stuff of Dreams
The Original Series 9 Greg Cox Miasma Miasma
Titan X John Jackson Miller Abwesende Feinde Absent Enemies

Then, only these 3 stories are missing:
Typhon Pact X Christopher L. Bennett Kampf The Struggle Within
Vanguard 9 Dayton Ward Spuren des Sturms In Tempest's Wake
Next Generation X Rudy Josephs Q sind herzlich ausgeladen Q are Cordially Uninvited

Ha! Great. Then I'll get over to CC, trying to force them to reveal something :D
