Star Trek Defiant - DS9 Sequel Series

It would be about as close in tone to DS9 as PIC was to TNG. That is, none at all.

Not to mention that the Defiant is in the Starfleet Museum, so it ain’t going anywhere.

Well USS Defiant would most likely be in animated form. Show could spotlight what occurred on the Defiant after WYLB up to its eventual designation at Starfleet Academy. Show could also focus on a new iteration of the ship, as in a USS Defiant A, B/C. With a greenlit mix of old and new faces, terrific tales along with fantastic FX, we could certainly have another superb show.

No offense, but after PIC I’m not holding my breath for any good follow-up DS9 show. And I’m saying that as someone who thinks DS9 was the best Trek show ever.

It was in the museum by 2401. They could set this series between 2375 and whenever the Defiant-A went into the museum.

PROD is around 2383, so the Defiant-A could make an appearance there if nothing else.

I don't see the appeal of a Defiant series that doesn't include DS9, especially since Defiant wasn't intended to go off on its own for long periods of time. It's no Enterprise, Voyager, or even Equinox.

No. The Defiant is retired. And before PIC S3, there were ideas from the DS9 doc to destroy the Defiant in the hypothetical S8 premiere. So, the Defiant would not be figuring into any DS9 sequel series plans whatsoever.

Besides, they had an idea for the USS Emmitt Till from the DS9 doc, with Captain Ezri Dax and CMO Julian Bashir. If they wanted to do a sequel series to DS9, that’s what it would likely be based on.

Not if they were planning on using the original DS9 cast members. Because what's the point of having the Defiant if you're just going to have a different crew that has nothing to do with Deep Space Nine?

To the writers, Defiants are like potato chips: betcha can't destroy just one!

If there were to be a sequel series, I'd rather it was on the station than on the Defiant. The Defiant is a small ship with no reason for our favorite recurring characters to be there, and it would need a station to go back to every week or two at least for supplies and shore leave.

Show would of course focus upon the legendary space station. With it's cornerstone being whatsoever ships carrying the name USS Defiant's adventures ever since WYLB. With DS9 among other ST alumni and other new interesting characters being part of the main cast.

Maybe the defiant were Sisko or the crew or something, that time they defied orders and did that thing that time. Maybe they do that again but in a sequel series. "Captain the Dominion have broken through the perimeter and are on their way to E̶a̶r̶t̶h̶ Bajor!" "I am about to commit a direct v̶i̶o̶l̶a̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ defiance of our orders. Any of you who wish to object should do so now. It will be noted in my log."

I agree that the station would be crucial to a DS9 sequel. But, in terms of starships, the USS Emmett Till would be the vessel likely used.

There is also the USS Theseus that is used by Sisko in his return in the comics.

Either way, the Defiant is not likely to return.

I think that there are are at least two ways to do a DS9 exploration show.

The first is be like Voyager and be basically TNG in the Gamma Quadrant, exploring near the Alpha Quadrant-Gamma Quadrant border, far from the Dominion

The second is exploring beyond Cardassian/Bajoran/Ferengi space in the Alpha Quadrant.

I think a equal series would find room for both, as well as showing life on the station.

Why not just make more seasons of DS9?

It would be a very different series anyway. Sisko has left and probably isn't coming back any time soon, Kira is head of the station, almost everyone of the original cast has left, the Dominion war is over, the Cardassians are rebuilding and licking their wounds and won't be a threat for at least the next 20 years or so, if this experience doesn't change them permanently in the first place.

If Bajor wants the Federation to continue being the administrator and protector of the station, the Federation will probably want another Starfleet captain to be in command.

^Not sure I'd want that job if I were a Starfleet officer. It may be a prestigious posting after the Dominion war, but you'd probably always be compared by the Bajorans to the True Commander of the station, the Emissary that has now ascended ...

I always felt that they missed their chance to not have additional DS9 characters be aboard the Defiant in First Contact, aside from just Worf. I think the closest we'll get to a follow up to DS9 is some of the plot elements from Picard season 3 (which felt a bit neglected by the end of the season), but I might be wrong. Both TNG and VOY (in Prodigy) are getting follow ups, so maybe DS9 will too.
