Spock's first mind meld with Bones.........

Can anybody name Spock's first meld with McCoy (from production order)?

It's a trick question I think.

It is a trick question. Mirror Spock mind-melds with McCoy in "Mirror, Mirror". I think the first "regular" meld happens in "Spectre of the Gun".

Nope neither of those......

I knew this would be tough. I'll give folks a little longer to think about this.

Well, i'm about to go offline for a while---so i'll spill it.

I'd bet a good 95% of folks never saw this or it never struck them.

In Return/Archons....after McCoy has been absorbed there is a quick scene of Spock performing a mind meld on McCoy in the cell. He is holding his hand on his head in the traditional way and says, "It's no use" or some such line.

I saw it recently on the Blu-ray although you certainly don't need high resolution to see it. I find it really odd as it is only the second time spock does it and it is so casual and brief. perhaps they had a much longer thing filmed but the episode was running long. I wonder why they then left it in at all.

Check it out.

I haven't seen this ep in awhile, but I assumed it was a "light" mind touch, mainly to see if Bones was "home" in there, and if the computer's control was superficial enough for Spock to break him free. Spock just went deep enough to find out what he needed to know.

Of course, I could be totally wrong.:)

"Impossible. He's under extremely powerful control."

Man do i love it when folks can be helpful in an accurate way.

I just find it amazing that they threw in a mind-meld and it lasted for 5 seconds and it was after the really involved 'Dagger' version.
Also, Kirk was gone from the room at that time (I think) and Spock would have had to explain it to the guards, Lindstrom or not at all and just perform the meld. That's so wildly different from the set-up in Dagger.

Thanks for that!
