Series 7 FINALLY Starts Shooting

I must have hallucinated Rose, Marth and Donna in Let's Kill Hitler...

Photographs. Wow!

Oh yeah, and RIVER!

That'd be the Mary-Sue, sorry, the character he created. (And I think those episodes were made after he had already been asked to take over the series.)

If I'm remembering The Writer's Tale correctly, Moffat was offered Doctor Who during the filming of "Silence"/"Forest." I'd expect that Moffat had already spoken to the BBC brass about taking over the series sometime prior to the filming, but it's difficult to guess when that might have been in relation to Moffat's scripting.

And the Radio Times has confirmed 1 September as the premiere date, with a start time of 7:20 PM. (Which, for the record, is about twenty-five minutes before sunset. So much for dark nights...)

Well that depends on what latitude you are at, the further North you go the later the sunset. So in some parts of the UK, the sun might not have set until after the episode has finished or is almost over.

Point being, whether it's photos, or characters he created, he's clearly brought things from the RTD era back. I'll accept the costumes (Ood, Judoon etc) as unavoidable, but he didn't have to reference Rose et al in LKH.

TBH I'm surprised that people are more engaged in this issue than by his admission that the hype for AOTD that's been going on for months doesn't actually reflect what the actual episode is in any real way.

That's fine with me. I'm actually hoping Moffat continues to do the unexpected thing, and that these episodes are a lot more than just the cheesy "movie poster" adventures he's been hyping them up to be.

That last thing I want is another Victory of the Daleks.

I'm pretty sure that John confirmed during his interview of Matt, Arthur, and Karen at SDCC that one of the reasons he has not been back is due to scheduling conflicts on his part. He's been quite busy the last couple of years.

And let's not forget, Jack was originally going to be in A Good Man Goes to War, but schedule conflicts prevented that.

And now he's got a part on CW's "Green Arrow" series

So his schedule becomes more busy.

The 2nd half will likely start around the usual airing time, around Easter.

And then rinse and repeat for series 8

If the rumours are true that
The Dalek mutants can now pilot human bodies to infiltrate places

I'll be annoyed, since that was the original pitch, titled Mark Four, for what became Unregenerate....

And in an InnerSPACE interview yesterday, Barrowman said he'd love to come back for an adventure for the 50th anniversary, but thus far he hasn't been asked.

Some non-spoilery thoughts (since Matt Smith basically pinky-swore the audience not to spoil) on last night's screening of "Asylum of the Daleks" in New York...

First, American Who fandom has turned into Beatlemania. It's something that Matt Smith himself remarked upon in the Q&A; he'd love it if Doctor Who filmed in New York permanently because of the reaction that Doctor Who gets over here.

Corollary to the first, in my completely unscientific opinion, I'm pretty sure that I was at least two standard deviations above the mean age of the audience.

Tangent to the first, I'm curious to see how BBC America will cut together the line footage they shot. Several times in the three hours before they began seating the theater, guys came down the line with cameras and mics to get footage of the crowd being rowdy. I wondered if Matt and Karen would arrive before seating (so that there would be a genuine reaction from the line to their arrival) or after seating (so that any legitimate crowd reaction would be from people who didn't score tickets and simply showed up to gawk). BBC America went with the latter.

Second, when the grading poll opens, "Asylum" is getting a "Very Good." It's one of Moffat's best scripts in years (probably since "A Study in Pink," possibly since "The Girl in the Fireplace"), but it's not without its niggles. "Pond Life" will, undoubtedly, resolve a major issue (I didn't buy the place Amy and Rory were at in their lives in the way it was presented). But there's also a first act narrative thread that doesn't go anywhere, there's some business with (SPOILERS) that doesn't make any sense, and, frankly, I'm not entirely sure what the Daleks' problem was that they required the Doctor to solve it for them. That said, the episode was hugely enjoyable. It has some genuine surprises. It is a tearjerker (the waterworks spouted at, I think, three different moments). And, like a Sherlock script, it pays to pay attention.

Third, as I said on Twitter last night, I think this episode can "break the Internet in half." :)

For some random things...

Karen thinks she and Matt should do the Scottish Play together. However, she actually called it by name, and Matt made her run off the stage, spin around, and run back to ward off the evil spirits.

Karen's dress was gorgeous.

The theater itself was awesome, except for the traffic flow. To get from the lobby to the theater you can to walk through the souvenir line, the concession lines, and the line to the women's restroom.

You're in for a treat next week.

And we know the answer to "who killed all the Daleks"? Who do you think?

:)

Too bad Hardwick told us to stay in our seats at he end. Just enough time for Matt and Karen to get into the DeLorean and hit 88

And we know the answer to "who killed all the Daleks"? Who do you think?

If it really does turn out to be a
sort-of regenerating Amy, I never want to hear anyone complain about RTD making Rose/Donna super-special and important again...
