I mean lots of things could have influenced that request, not that being married was a no go.

I mean, certainly at this point n one is playing the "they never said they were married therefore they can't have been married" card, right?
Even if season 3 does open with a wedding, that does not mean it will open with a marriage.
A parallel universe variant that time traveled into the future from the present-past days of future days gone by explains it all.
If so it may be best to just view everything after 'Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow' as an alternate timeline from TOS (considering that in the original TOS timeline La'an never time-traveled to 2022 to meet young Khan as the Eugenics Wars took place in the 1990s) because this is bending continuity to the extreme (if not outright breaking it) in regards to Chapel and Spock in TOS.It's gonna be Chapel/Spock.
Pretty sure it's going to be a flashback to happier times. Those two are doomed.

That's more than a bit of a stretch to justify something like that.

I'd assume she isn't around because she's dead. My view is she is dying and they get married anyway, but M'benga cannot save her.

Yeah, ummm ... Jim & Carol would apparently have happened either while he was at the Academy or just after him graduating in the TOS timeline.
Gary Mitchell is supposedly been the one to have introduced them to each other.
(and we haven't even seen him in SNW yet)
We may have to adjust the year of that event, Kirk has only been shown as the Captain of the USS Farragut in the alternate timeline so far and he's still a Lt. as of Season 2.
Though I'm not an expert on how it all fits together as far as the years go.

Kirk wasn't Captain when the creature attacked the Farragut. He was a Lt. manning the phasers.
