Scotty and Keenser (SPOILERS)

What's the deal here? Why does Keenser automatically resign when Scotty resigns? Scotty looks at him like, WELL?! and he just hands in his resignation. Kirks says nothing.

Is Scotty like Keenser's GUIDE DOG?! To Starfleet, to the world of speech?! Is Keenser only there because he has Scotty as his aide and he can't function without that?

Keenser is Scotty's conscience made flesh.

But if they are lovers it seems rather codependent. Can you imagine if Spock resigned over Kirk doing something unethical and then just STARED at Uhura as if to say, "WELL?" and she jumped up quick smart and handed her resignation in and ran along after him like a little doggie? No. Would never happen. But happened with Keenser and Scotty.

Keensar's species are aware of the fourth wall so he resigned for comedy value, acutely aware of being observed by an audience.

The torpedoes were dangerous and who wants to be on a ship without Scotty to save you. In fact if I were on the ship and Scotty resigned I might jump ship too.

I think PrimeSpock would have resigned in a minute if PrimeKirk resigned on a matter of principle/principal. Mmmmm what does that imply?

I'm more interested in knowing what happened to Keenser after the nightclub scene. After all, even though his blank stare was enough to motivate Scotty to do as Kirk asked and check things out at Jupiter, he apparentally didn't tag along. A shame, they could have played into his role as comic relief sidekick in a way that actually advanced the story. After Khan's inevitable betrayal and he's shot Kirk and Scotty and curshed Admiral Marcus's skull, we could learn Keenser is actually a lot stronger than he looks as he viciously attacks Khan, like a rabid dog clawing and biting and actually wins in the end. After this, Deep Roy could accidentally forget he's supposed to be in character and say "take that, Cumberbitch."

Okay, but seriously, I seem to recall a behind the scenes photo of the ceremony at the end with Deep Roy in costume and wearing a dress uniform having a conversation with Abrams, so I'm guessing Keenser does re-join Starfleet when Scotty does.

This is a great idea.. I feel like I've seen this surprise somewhere before.

It's hardly an original idea. Just off the top of my head, there's Attack of the Clones where we discover Yoda has some pretty badass lightsabre skills.

I thought of that but I'm sure there was something I've seen that was much more of a shock (we knew Yoda was a Jedi master).

Keenser is the Robin to Scotty's Batman, the Ernie to his Bert, the R2-D2 to his C-3PO (though R2 is infinitely cooler), the Gracie to his George, the cream to his cookies, the crumpets to his tea, the yang to his yin. They're inseparable. They're the Odd Couple. That's all there is to it, really.

I could easily see a friend quitting in solidarity if his friend was forced to resign over taking a stand at work.
