Not sure if this has been discussed.
If so I apologize, but I just stumbled on it now.

Who is Huston Huddleston, and has he ever successfully done anything like this before?

Edit: The project looks legitimate, with a board of directors and everything. So maybe it's feasible. And somehow I misread the location as Las Vegas. Oops.

A really good genre museum would be a joy, there's been so much out there doing the rounds of temporary exhibitions, conventions and private collections, it would be great to have somewhere central collating and cataloguing it, and most importantly displaying it in a well presented way for the public. I'd be in heaven.

The EMP Museum in Seattle is pretty cool.

Anyway, this is not right for General Trek, let's try Sci-Fi Fantasy. Hold on.

The idea is absolutely fantastic, but for actual models it should only have props that were used in the production of various movies and series. Just recreating knock offs--however high in quality--is not really being genuine, is it?

But then there wouldn't be any ships on display from more recent productions that only used CGI and no physical models.

Science-fiction museum....considering how much there has been in over 100 years, what would be included and what would be left out? Seems like it would have to be quite large in scope to do the subject justice.

And what would be done about Flesh Gordon and all of the other sci-fi porn? :D

Sounds like a good fit for the Smithsonian. An easier way to do this would maybe to build it as a VR application, being able to visit the iconic locations from each ship, without having to rent some large space to build it.

Huddleston is the guy who salvaged that Enterprise-D bridge set a few years back; all this is an outgrowth of that. So no, he hasn't done anything like this before (not that that necessarily disqualifies him from such an effort).
