Saber Class

Jeez. Sorta makes my stuff from 20 years ago look like it's from, well, 20 years ago!

I always felt that the Saber Class & Star Wars Raider-class Corvette should've been combined into one platform.

Then you could've had a StarShip that actually looks like a proper flying Saber.

Just merge the Raider-class Corvette to the front of the Saber Class, blend the hull and adjust a few bits & bobs. Then you have what looks like a proper flying Saber.

Sidebar comment re: D.M. Phoenix...that their website's been hobbled by the end of support for Macromedia/Adobe Flash. Any word on whether or not they've been able to rework their site?

Back on topic: a crew of forty, and it looks like there's an escape pod for every single crewmember to use exclusively...?

Depends on the scale of the ship, it might be that each escape pod isn't much larger than a photon torpedo casing.

Having a creew of forty goes back to the DS9 TM, I think. Fandom at the time were using grainy movie stills and windows to presuppose a smaller ship, and I thnk Rick Sternbach made the same conclusion.

Meanwhile, DM Phoenix adopted the class design as a personal project and played around with it. A lot, going by the calendar artwork they produced over the years.

The generally accepted length of the Sabre is 190 meters, so it's only 20 meters longer than the Defiant, if we go with visual effects supervisor David Stipes in regard to how they scaled the ships (though this would make the Sabre 120 meters wider), which would make a crew of 40 not seem outside the realms of possibility.
