Review of Voyager Seasons

I just noticed something. Maybe it is me but first two seasons of Voyager had a much higher quality in writing and continuty , isn't it. There were familiar faces. Characters in same small ship are not forgotten after one episode. Events and main cast were much more consistent. The events , subjects of each episode represented saga of a lone starship and its crew trying to return home much better.

With Season 3 , the show began to degrade in writing and it became mediocre. But last season was practicly unwatchable for me. ( holographic rebellion and liberation themes , overuse of of time travel and Borg defeated aspects everytime , baseless romantic ships etc )

What do you think ?

Voyager has the strongest first season of the four spin-offs IMO. Having only 15 episodes meant there was less room for pointless filler (which is why nBSG's short first season is better than 2 and 3 as well.) They for the most part adhered to the ship's limited supplies etc. back then. Season 2 is when the cliches started to creep in, but I really appreciate the continuity that Seska and the Kazon provided, even though they aren't the most outstanding villains.

Season 3 is the worst of the series.

Season One was just terrible imo.
Season Two is debateably the best of the show
Season Three is below average
Seasons 4-5 are up there with season two.
Season 6 and 7 have a bunch of great episodes mixed in with a bunch of terrible ones.

I'd dare say season one of voyager is the worst star trek season by far ever. I can only think of two episodes from it I'd go out of my way to rewatch.

S1 and S2 contained the largest attempts at internal continuity and were closest to Voyager's concept. Also, Chakotay and Tuvok weren't completely useless at this time. I liked S1, even though it didn't completely push its concept too hard. There weren't too many bad eps because the season was so short.

However, I think S2 had much more inconsistent writing and therefore terrible episodes; there were some real stinkers. As Evil Twin said, the cliches started to creep in in S2.

S3 was mostly crap, minus a handful of good eps in the first 2/3rds of the season. Not including Displaced, the last 6 eps were quite good. Of course, continuity went out the window in S3.

S4-6 had the most consistent writing and I found were probably the most watchable seasons. Admittedly, it was mainly the Janeway, Doctor and Seven show by then, but I actually looked forward to their eps because they were generally decently written and there would occasionally be a good or great ep without them in the lead. Still a lot of clunkers in there though.

S7 added some continuity back to the series and tried to keep the feel of S4-6, but the writing went down a little bit. It might just be me, but I actually liked the holographic rights eps.

That's just my opinion.

They might have had better continuity, and paid more attention to the lone ship idea, but the episodes were hastily written, and they didn't explore the above-mentioned issues as well as they could have.

IMO, seasons 4 - 7 are much better than seasons 1 - 3.

This is how I rank them:

1) 5
2) 6
3) 4
4) 7
5) 1
6) 2
7) 3

season #2 was the best one
season #1 was very good
season #3 was not quite as good as season #1
season #4 AND 5 were almost as good as season #1
season #6 started to go down hill, but there were some great episodes .Fury would have been better if they made it a two parts
season #7 the writers seemed to have lost interest and it showed. The ending left much to be desired.

All in all there were more good episodes than bad. Each season had more than one great episode. Still Voyager was one of my all time favorite sci-fi`s IMHO
