New Rise/Dawn/War Universe Planet of The Apes Movie In The Works

Disney and director Wes Ball are working on a new Planet of the Apes movie set in the same universe as the Andy Serkis movies. Ball said that a lot of the same people who worked on those movies are part of this movie's team, but that it will not simply be part four of that story. He also said that "We will feel like we’re part of that original trilogy, but at the same time we’re able to do some really cool new stuff. It will be really exciting to see on the biggest screen possible."
War really did feel like a nice way to end the story started with Rise, so that left them with a good place to do a time jump or perspective shift of some sort. I really like that whole take on the Planet of The Apes concept, so I'm happy to hear that they are sticking to it, rather than just doing another reboot.

So basically it's the Andy Serkis/Caesar continuity, but in the distant future where the Apes have a thriving civilization with human slaves? I'm intrigued.

I just rewatched the ending on YouTube to refresh my memory about the lake and it's Spirit Lake and the mountain in the background is Mt. St. Helens, or a close approximation.
Which kind of makes sense seeing as the Alpha/Omega army came from the north and the army they were fighting against came down from the north and Caesar and the apes had to travel north from San Francisco/Oakland to reach them and the only major military installation in that direction is Joint Base Lewis McChord.
The other thing I noticed is that Bad Ape's vest, when viewed at certain angles, looks like the purple vests the gorillas wore on the first series.
Maybe a bit of foreshadowing on the part of the movie to show that the chimpanzees will be the more warlike species in upcoming films.

Which is actually more accurate to real apes, in real life Chimps are more violent than Gorillas and Orangutans. The original movies basically flipped the roles Chimps and Gorillas would probably end up playing in an evolved ape society.

Yep, and inverted the orangs' psychology too, making them the keepers of the social order, while real orangs are the least social, most solitary great apes.

I read the original Pierre Boulle novel recently, and it portrayed the ape species in much the same ways, though more as a satire of different flavors of scholar, like those who are hidebound and just repeat what was written in the past.

I'd love to see another film in this universe. I loved Rise, absolutely adored Dawn, and whilst I thought War was the weakest of the three it was still a solid movie, that just lacked a little novelty value of the first and the drama of the second. The thought of continuing this story but decades, even centuries later with Caeser becoming a Jesus type figure I find to be very compelling indeed. They can literally do anything they like with the series at this point, from decades in the future with them still like cavemen, or centuries so it's like medieval times or even further than that. They can even go down the route of the original films (which was heavily foreshadowed in Rise) if they like, and given the length of time there's been since those films were out, I don't see a problem with this either.

I think this series has been one of the very best of the last couple of decades, they've been extremely well executed and are a model of how to reboot an old franchise in my view. I want more.
