New Phaser and Rifle Revealed

I understand the need to harken back to TOS, but this is TOO retro to feel like a realistic future weapon. That and the Cage nozzle looks stupid as hell. I hate it. The Kelvin timeline phaser is a better modern reimagining of the phaser.

That thing looked like it came out of some pop-scifi illustration.
Too shiny and the flipping part was dumb and gimmicky.

I agree, but it still felt more futuristic than this thing in body shape/design. This FEELS like it's from the 60s.

Like the communicator, It's an extremely faithful update of the TOS prop. Maybe a little too much so?

Yes, too much so for 2017.

The decade of the sixties was the absolute apex of streamlined, sleek, forward-thinking, stylish modernist design in many arenas, so I love that this design is reminiscent of that era. I feel like I might finally get "Mad Men in space" like I've wanted for so long.

I like the designs for the phaser and Communicators it looks like it was from the 1960s.:techman: I like the streamlined look to them. I also like the Starfleet Uniforms.

Could this be the 'safety'? Its right above the grip, so easy to hit with the thumb.

Well at least we made it to the 2nd page. That's pretty good for TBBS.

Ha, my apologies, but I mean, it's not going to make or break the show for me. I love TOS, I just don't feel like it's look should be used in 2017. I mean, you could definitely have throwbacks to the design while modernizing it. Like a 1967 Mustang to a 2017 Mustang.

Either way, I'm happy we're getting a new show, but as a design buff, things like that just stick out to me.

THAT is awesome, and more in line with what it should have been.
I don't know why they decided to go with the silver one for the movie. What I love about this is how it looks a lot like the original, but is actually modern looking. I don't know if it would work for DSC, but it is probably my favorite.

To me, this one looks like the gap between "The Cage" and what we saw on display as phasers from the Kelvin crew in the beginning of the 2009 film, leading into TOS designs. I really like it!
