With the World Series over, I've closed the 2024 Season thread.

Feel free to discuss what terrible moves the Angels will make here.

:techman:

Cardinals are moving catcher Willson Contreras from C to 1B. They're not bringing Paul Goldschmidt back, if you know of any teams who want to overpay for an old and underproductive big name.

The Red Sox will make token offers to big free agents so they can say "We tried" but continue their cheapskate phase.

Phillies get soto? I mean we already have some overpaid dudes as is why not? Actually you know what I think he signs with the mets but..

What team will make a surprise trade before the season starts?

I'm just assuming Soto is going to the Dodgers. If it's true I won't be as disappointed. If it's not I will be surprised. I also read a story yesterday about the Giants wanting to cut payroll so them getting Soto i would put at like 5%

I think Soto will stay in New York, most likely with the Yankees unless the Mets make a ridiculous offer. Reportedly he wasn't happy out on the West Coast when he played for the Padres and prefers to be on the East Coast, closer to his home and family.

Keith Hernandez talking about his kitty Hadji (whom he just had to put down, at age 22 :wah: ).

Longtime Seattle Mariners announcer Dave Sims is set to become the New York Yankees play by play caller.
Damn, he and Rick Rizz were a great pair. I hate to see him go.

So the Orioles, after going through all that trouble moving the left field fence at Camden Yards way the hell out...

...are now going to move it BACK.

Whoopsies! :guffaw:

So, MLB is going to have two teams playing in minor league stadiums, this year?

The stadium situation for the Rays is back in limbo. The St. Petersburg City Council has signed off, but the Pinellas County Commission is making noises about refusing to fund the bonds that would be backed by the county's resort tax. Why? Because the Rays are going to play in Tampa (Hillsborough County). Petty politics at its finest. There are several other spring training stadiums in Pinellas County, but the Tampa situation is the one that comes closest to meeting major league standards.

Alex Bregman supposedly wants a $350 million contract. WTF? This is gonna be Cody Bellinger, Blake Snell, Jordan Montgomery all over again.
