Middle name

commodore64

Vice Admiral
Admiral
I can't remember - does anyone on Enterprise have a middle name. (I'm including the books, even if imo, they aren't canon.)

I don't think any of them were given an official middle name. The only character who I know has a (non-canon) middle name is Trip. His full name according to the novels is Charles Anthony Tucker III.

There have been some jokes about Archer's middle name being Beckett, but nothing serious. Personally I think they should make that official.

"Tiberius" wasn't originally from TOS. I don't recall whether it was fanon or something from one of the novels. But it was accepted, and now it's canon.

Same for Nyota, and Hikaru...

So there's always hope for Jonathan Beckett Archer. :)

With a new creative team keen to stamp their authority over the past, present and future of Star Trek...

...I strongly suspect the good Captain's initials now read J J A.

Tiberius originated in TAS and was made canon in Trek VI. Hikaru also originated in Trek VI, though I'm not sure it existed in anyway before that. Nyota has long been fanon, though I understand Nichelle Nichols considered it to be Uhura's first name all along. It was finally canonized with Trek XI.

Pretty sure Kirk's middle name was established in "Where No Man Has Gone Before" on the faux-gravestone Mitchell creates for him.

EDIT: Never mind - I am wrong!

Meanwhile, there were plenty of referances in TOS To Kirk's middle name starting with T, but Tiberius wasn't said until TAS, and not canonized until TUC.

From what I understand, Sulu's first name was given in the novel 'Entropy Effect' (someone correct me if I'm wrong) and wasn't cannon...er, canon-ized until TUC....

Some random picks:
*Jonathan Jackson Archer (Based on other posters)
*Travis Scott Mayweather
*Malcolm Darius Reed
*Hoshi Jun Sato (I believe Sato is a Korean chick who grew up in Japan, so the Jun name...from what I know...is a pan-Asian name).
*Charles Theo Tucker...who goes by the nickname 'Trip'...

Where did this come from? Trip's non-canonical middle name (from the relaunch novels) is already established as Anthony.

*Malcolm Darius Reed
Sounds good... How about Malcolm Allister Reed? :D

*Hoshi Jun Sato (I believe Sato is a Korean chick who grew up in Japan, so the Jun name...from what I know...is a pan-Asian name).
She could be Korean only on her mother's side, or even an adopted Korean child raised by a Japanese family in Kyoto.

*Travis Scott Mayweather
Would Travis LeShaun Mayweather be too much of a stereotype? Because I really like how that one sounds.

Not bad. Jonathan Jackson Archer sounds alright enough, but it reminds me of the actor Jonathan Jackson.

My ideas:

Jonathan Beckett Archer
Malcolm Frederick Reed
Travis Wesley Mayweather

I like the idea of Archer being named for Sam Beckett. I can't remember where I came up with Frederick for Reed, but I like how the name flows, and I always imagined that he was named for his father's uncle, who sacrificed himself to save the rest of his submarine's crew. I got Wesley from Anthony Montgomery's grandfather, jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery.

Hoshi is Japanese, and I don't think they use middle names in Japan (though I could be wrong). As for Trip, I like the name they gave him in the ENT novels.

On page 168 of the new Romulan war book archers full name is revealed "Jonathan Beckett Archer".I kid you not.:)

Fanon strikes again...

EDIT: A note on middle name for Hoshi:

I just got a Facebook and text message from a Japanese friend, and he was saying that ancient Japanese did have middle names; today, however, Japanese don't have middle names unless they're Christian....

He also gave me some info on how Japanese (merchants, higher class, etc...handled names)...

(So there could be some possibilities there for Hoshi; but I'm going to go with Skystalker and assume Sato doesn't have a middle name).

Correct. Coined by Vonda McIntyre, and suggested to director Nick Meyer by novelist Peter David, during his ST VI set visit, that the name be slipped in as an Easter egg.
