Kira and Dukat

BTW, I always wondered where Dukat bought that dress. Was it from Garak’s shop? And, really, there’s no way that dress would have fit both women: Ziyal was a pretty big girl—Kira was a little bitty thing. (To quote Spencer Tracy “not much meat there, but what’s there is cherce.” )

Still not sure how that equals Kira rifling through Ziyal’s possessions. Or am I being too literal?

Dukat was a sociopath even before he went crazy. Yeah, he was charming, and that is a classic aspect of sociopathy. His interest in Kira wasn't about Kira, it was about him having the strength of personality to even convince the strongest of Bajorans of his greatness.

I suppose if you look at his actions in the first four or so seasons, there wasn't confirmation of sociopathy yet. So at that point, they could have written Dukat to give him a real repentance, and then it might have been vaguely plausible. But he would have had to break down under the weight of his own guilt and truly show Kira he can't live with himself, then have had Kira build him back up into someone who can lead the charge in some (Humanoid equivalent of humanist) cause.

Someone mentioned pairing Kira with Damar if he had been left alive. I just don't think that would ever work after he killed Ziyal. Dukat only glosses over it because he wants revenge on Sisko above anything else.

Even after he sobered up, Damar was so prideful that he wouldn't accept tactical advice from Kira until she was given a Starfleet field commission of Commander by Admiral Ross.

There was too much animosity there and Dukat would have been even more preposterous.

I say that as someone who likes all 3 characters.

But Damar did kill his friend Russot to save Kira. He went through tremendous change during their mission together. When the Dominion killed his family, he said what kind of people could order the death of innocents, and Kira says yes, what kind of people could do that. She repents saying that because she doesn’t want to alienate him, but Garak tells her that Damar needed to hear that, to understand that the old Cardassia is dead.
Garak had at least as much reason to hate Damar after he killed Ziyal, but Cardassian literature is full of instances of characters killing loved ones for the good of the State.
But, having said all that, Damar had to die. There was only room for one “good Nazi,” and that was Garak.

I don't know about a romance between Kira and Dukat, but they were so much fun to watch the arguing. I really didn't like he didn't stay on the good side. could have been a blast if he had. Romance? I don't know. It would have been interesting if he could have had a Bajoran woman to fall in love with. But don't know who, or a Vulcan that one on the Maquis side was pretty interesting.

Yeah this would have been a jump the shark idea. Granted, teenage me probably wouldn't have questioned it, but it would been a wtf for me on subsequent viewings.

Pretty much everything was already said here. Kira and Dukat would have made no sense in any form of reality. I mean it's pretty clear that there's something there from Dukat's side. But to Kira he's one of the people personally responsible for the genocide of her people, how could she ever even consider loving him?
As others have said Kyra and a Cardassian civilian might have been interesting (and more interesting than Kira/Odo) but NOT Dukat.

When that comes up in the documentary, it's a little unclear what she meant: was she saying at the time she wanted that to happen, or was she speaking after the fact? I tend to think that at the time, she would have at least resisted a romance with a Cardassian.

But if yes, who? Assuming that Visitor would have wanted to have romantic scenes with a Cardassian character, I could only think of one really good candidate: Damar.
Called it! Visitor says that she wanted Kira to have a romance with Damar (or was it just Casey Biggs).

As far as a romance with Damar goes, the timing was unfortunate. During her mission, she was still with Odo. By the time Odo rejoined the Great Link, Damar was long dead.

Visitor did say that, but the way she tossed out the comment makes me think she didn't really think through every aspect of it, particularly that Kira was good friends with a borderline parental relationship with Ziyal, until Damar killed her. Kira was willing to work with him when he was with the Cardassian resistance for the good of the Alpha Quadrant, but I think it would have put a damper on any romantic relationship.

There's a good chance that any Cardassian with whom Kira would be paired would have issues. Indeed, that is what would make it intriguing: what would someone deal with because of love? Of the Cardassians we see the most, Damar is probably the best candidate. Killing Ziyal was a political act, and she seemed willing to work with Damar in spite of that death. Didn't Kira forgive more for Odo?

Did she forgive more for Odo? The three innocent Bajorans he allowed to die in Things Past. Being so busy linking with the Female Changeling that he forgets about turning off alarm in Behind the Lines, resulting in Rom's capture. Still, none of those people were as close to Kira as Ziyal was.

Three Bajorans who died because Odo made an error, and Rom who was captured and then freed.
We all have different values, but for me that doesn't compare to one cold-blooded murder.

Not that it's a contest anyway.

Glad they didn't take that route anyway. DS9, great as it was, sometimes veered a bit towards the "soapy" side for my tastes already.

Those three Bajorans were a mistake that Odo regretted his whole life.

I don’t think Kira with a Cardassian is impossible. If there were a powerful Cardassian former dissident who came to power after the war and led his people to become more moderate and take up causes to defend weaker races from enslavement, Kira would fall for him in a second.
