Kira and Dukat

I find Dukat's "Goodbye, Nerys" in Covenant to be rather poignant because there is a sense that there is so much left to say that will never be said, going all the way back to Necessary Evil, when we see Dukat, Kira and Odo together on Terok Nor for the first time.

Oh, I KNOW! Even with how creepy and psycho Dukat is, that line absolutely killed me when I saw it.

Unlike Kira and Odo, Dukat is never able to transcend his troubled past and make something new of himself. But, as Ron Moore states in that interview you quoted recently, we get the sense that he could have, or might have. And that is sad.

Indeed. He could have been more--but he did himself in with his own choices, and in the end, he paid for them.

I would have loved for Kira and Dukat to have got together. There's so much potential there and perhaps if they fell in love Dukat would have became a "good guy" and helped the Federation. It would have been nice to see him redeem himself. But no instead we Garak and Damar get their redemption arc. I really feel Dukat did regret the occupation and wanted to make things better between Cardassia and Bajor. Their u. Samnion and love could have healed the wounds of the past for each of them as well as helping the future of both planets. I love how even though she rejects him over and over he never stops trying it on with her lol. They had such good chemistry but I love how complex and twisted their relationship is. I respect Kira for sticking to her guns too though and not giving up what she believes in but I really don't think she or the writers did either of them a favour by not persuing a relationship between the two. Afterall the whole basis of the series is practically about the relationship between Cardassia and Bajour and Bajour trying to heal from the occupation. I think they're love could have solidified that and helped them both to heal. As Dukat says, "Why are you so reluctant to admit the obvious? We make an excellent team". Same thing with Sisko, "We are not old friends Dukat". They never gave him a chance - not once! I really think he would have surprised them all and could have shown them the good he was most certainly capable of. He even could have - should have - helped the Federation win the war against the Dominion and been a good ally just like Martok was with the Klingons. He should have been the hero of that show. The evil man who becomes a hero and finds love and redemption with Kira and she could have healed the wounds from the occupations. Ah but alas...oh well I suppose that's what fanfiction is for (and believe me, I read a lot of Kira/Dukat fanfiction - especially the saucy one's lol!). They would have made such a good couple but alas. It could have been really interesting and I couldn't help feeling the first time I watched it that it was a big mistake and wasted potential but I've gotten used to it more now and now I just enjoy the fanfiction.

Dukat always treated her step daughter as if she was was his biological daughter, and you're all communists if you say otherwise.

It's my suspicion that he went incredibly easy on the Shakar resistance, just because his daughter was signed up to the rag tag rabble of rebel scum.

Otherwise Shakar would have been nuked from orbit in the first week of his command.

They never gave him a chance - not once!
Sure they did. They gave him many chances, to the point where they ended up regretting ever trusting him.

I really feel Dukat did regret the occupation and wanted to make things better between Cardassia and Bajor.
"I hated everything about them! Their superstitions and their cries for sympathy, their treachery and their lies, their smug superiority and their stiff necked obstinacy, their earrings and their broken wrinkled noses. [...] I should have killed every last one of them. I should have turned their planet into a graveyard the likes of which the galaxy had never seen! I should have killed them all" -- Dukat.

Afterall the whole basis of the series is practically about the relationship between Cardassia and Bajour and Bajour trying to heal from the occupation.

I always thought that was the core backdrop for DS9. The Dominion was an important arc but the Cardassian Occupation of Bajor was a powerful metaphor for much of human history.

Kira would not have been interested in Dukat or any Cardassian romantically. That's just not happening.
I could see maybe someday, Kira finding herself drawn to a Cardassian. She embraced one as her "father", and another as her "daughter" (sort of). She grew so much over the seven years of DS9, I could see it maybe happening years later. But not Dukat. Never Dukat.

I agree—never Dukat. In the documentary Visitor says that she would have liked a relationship with a Cardassian, but NOT Alaimo *sputter* I mean Dukat. You can edit that out, right? Sure we can. (They didn’t) :guffaw:

Maybe Kira, Garak and Bashir could have been a triad. Robinson was godparent to their child...

People are more accepting of differences in an honorary father figure or daughter figure than they are in romantic partners. Ghemor was not a typical Cardassian, and Ziyal was half Bajoran.

Maybe she could have been drawn to a Cardassian dissident who had spent the whole occupation fighting on the side of the Bajorans.

not so long ago, somewhere here, in some thread, someone said something like;
Damar's arc should be Dukat's...

if that happened, then maybe they could have been true friends... perhaps

I believe the writers were actually pushing for Kira to have some sort of romantic involvement with Dukat at one point, but Nana Visitor was adamantly against it, and she won the argument (which led to the writers putting in Dukat's affair with her mother).

From what I've seen and read, some people regret that and think to Nana/Marc had a great chemistry that was wasted. While I agree that the actors had great chemistry, I have to applaud Nana for sticking to her guns. Dukat, for all his charm and even in his best, non-crazy moments, was basically to the Bajorans what Hitler was the Jews, and for Kira to get involved with him romantically on any level would be completely OOC and a betrayal of her character.

My question is, how many of you agree with that, and how many of you wanted to see them paired romantically? I'm talking before Dukat went all crazy, of course.

For my part, I'm against the pairing, but if they wanted to capitalize on the chemistry between the two, there are a couple of ways to do that without compromising Kira's character integrity:

1.) Have MirrorKira involved with MirrorDukat. Heck, you could even make Dukat a "good guy" in the MU if you wanted.
2.) Have MirrorKira get involved with regular Dukat. That would be deliciously twisted.

Thoughts, comments?
Kira Odo was just as bad. Visitor didn't like that either. Neither did I.

When that comes up in the documentary, it's a little unclear what she meant: was she saying at the time she wanted that to happen, or was she speaking after the fact? I tend to think that at the time, she would have at least resisted a romance with a Cardassian.

But if yes, who? Assuming that Visitor would have wanted to have romantic scenes with a Cardassian character, I could only think of one really good candidate: Damar.

That would be worthy of a limited series! … though, I'm guessing, by the end of episode 2 MU-Kira would have Dukat wearing full body latex and renamed "Ashtray" as she used him for an ottoman. :rommie:

Completely agree - there is no way Kira would ever consider Dukat as a romantic partner. She tolerated him when she had to, but that was as far as it went - though having Dukat be infatuated with Kira was a masterstroke - it created some terrific moments for the show - like when Kira is looking at the dress, and suddenly realises why Dukat really gave it to her.

Near the end of the Cardassian Occupation of DS9, she held that pretty Dress up against her body, and thought, what a nice present from a lovely man... Fuck.

Not a lovely man, not a lovely man, not a lovely man.
She rifled through ZIyal's possessions? Hmm ...
