Was an alien race name ever given for Keenser (Deep Roy) in Star Trek (2009)?
I tried to coin a name for Keenser's species in Seek a Newer World, but I was not allowed to do so, even before the books were cancelled. The filmmakers want to reserve that privilege for themselves, apparently.
I wonder if TPTB would block an attempt to include Keener's prime-universe counterpart in a TOS novel?
Ditto Gaila, Robau or any of the other original STXI characters.
I found him to be an annoying invention myself with little to zero purpose except to look cute. Was there a Keenser action figure?
He was probably one of the few things I hated about "Star Trek".
I wasn't sure Keenser was even sentient when I saw the movie. A part od me still isn't. Scotty treated him more like a pet, a somewhat intelligent one but not a full sentirnt being.
Spock Prime: You are Montgomery Scott.
James T. Kirk: You know him?
Scotty: Aye, that's me. You're in the right place. Unless there's another hardworking, equally starved Starfleet officer around.
Keenser: Me.
Scotty: Get aff! Shut up! You don't eat anything! You can eat, like, a bean, and you're done. I'm talking about food. REAL food!
He was probably one of the few things I hated about "Star Trek".
Meanwhile, he was probably one of the few things I liked about Trek XI.
Keenser is cool. Deep Roy is an accomplished physical actor so he was able to give Keenser a lot of personality even without dialogue.
[...] the narrative is probably going to require a species name for Keenser [...]
...Yoda has never been given a species name in all the Star Wars-related media featuring him.
