Janeway

Admiral Jean-Luc Picard

Commodore
Commodore
After seven years in the Delta Quadrant, Captain Janeway was promoted to Admiral. Twenty years later, is she still an Admiral? What will her role be in Prodigy? Will she appear on Lower Decks or Picard?

I always loved how Kate Mulgrew portrayed Janeway's great disdain to time travel. lol

Lower Decks is in the past.

Voyager gets home 2378.

Star Trek Nemesis 2379

Lower Decks 2380

Star TRek (2009) 2387

Picard 2399

Why would she need to? I like Kate Mulgrew as an actress (she was great in Orange is the New Black), and I like her portrayal as Janeway, but honestly her story was told. She did the impossible, anything else is going to come across as a step down.
She's one of my favorite Trek characters. A Voyager movie was never going to happen. I'll take random guest appearances on CBS Trek.

Because it is completely unnecessary, smacks of "small universe syndrome (Which Trek is already significantly guilty of) and doesn't allow for her to just be part of a new story.
I could say the same about TOS characters on DIS, the entirety of Picard, and the LD finale. A woman who Captained a starship from the farside of the galaxy back to Earth, fought the Borg, rescued Seven and Icheb from the collective, and made Admiralty..... Do ya really think she's not gonna fine her way around the galaxy when not benched behind a desk?

For me, small universe syndrome has ruined the franchise. Only reason Lower Decks gets away with it is because the writing is top notch. I'm not someone that needs to see a character again and again in new franchise iterations just because I like them. To me, that kinda ruins their uniqueness.

Lower Decks is a parody. If she shows up there it will be in a joke of some sort. Why this would anger people is beyond me. The show serves to mine the franchise for jokes. Shouldn't the lead of a show that ran for 7 years be fodder for a joke or 2 should LDS run for a few seasons? Showing her killing Tuvix in a random scene would be amusing as would showing her decline Kim's promotion requests.

Janeway already made a cameo appearance on "Lower Decks".
Her space salamander DNA reasserted itself, and she was en route to the Farm when Boimler was there.

For Prodigy, I hope its a small part for Janeway and not some Mentor there all the time one.. but hey, I'll still watch it!

My guess is that Prodigy is set in the Discovery season 3 post-Burn era, and Janeway is a hologram the kids summon to help them with their adventures. Hence, "Captain" Janeway even though she was an admiral in ST: Nemesis.
