Jadzia's Demise

^^

I presume the irony was intentional?

Jadzia should have died of supreme self-smugness.

DS9 had few faults, Terry Farrell was probably the largest IMO.

I know, people are saying this all the time. But really, what makes Terry Farrel such a poor actress in your opinion? No, I'm not a big fan of hers. But I can't understand the dislike either. Can you cite episodes and/or scenes where her inability to act really becomes obvious? And yes, I'm serious. (And no, an answer like "She sucked in every single scene!" would not be sufficient.)

^^ Can't speak for others, but for me it's no specific scene, not one that comes to mind anyway. It's the supreme smugness that eminates from Terry Farrell's performance.

Perhaps it's harsh of me to condemn the actress, it may just be the way the character is written, or it may be her interpretation, but either way, for a show I love, that's a character I can't stand. Kira, Ezri, Kassidy, great. Jadzia, meh.

For me it was the combination of the writing for Jadzia and Terry's so-so acting. I don't hate her but I will say a scene that stands out as cringe-worthy is in Behind the Lines when she does the ritual speech with the spent phaser. She didn't pull it off very well.

For me "Rejoined" and "Behind the Lines" are the two most obvious answers.

With BTL just look at the speech Sisko gives compared to Jadzia. Brooks's speech is excellent, while TF is just numbingly bad.

With "Rejoined," Suzie just acts circles around her, especially in the most important scene of the episode. It is, in my mind, the difference of it being just a really good episode, and not an excellent one.

If there was no demise of Jadzia you would not have me.

I certainly can. I used to have a ball doing that on some other Trek fan sites. Once I compared Terry Farrell' Dax to Jeffrey Combs's Weyoun, in the scene were Terry Farrell is supposed to be acting like a diplomat therefore the acting can be compared on an apples to apples basis. I took a whole bunch of screen captures within several seconds of the same scene of Terry pretending to be a diplomat to help Sisko practice, to the scene where Weyoun comes aboard and discusses things with the Sisko just before the War starts. Terry's expression never changes once. Whereas Jeffrey's changes dozens of times within a matter of a minute or two. Not only facial expressions, but also mannerisms, voice intonations, interesting quirks etc. It's a very good illustration of exactly what's wrong with Terry's acting. She more or less just reads the lines in the most bland, one-dimensional way possible. Whereas compared to DS9's actors who have done theatre, they use their voice, their face, and every single part of their body to add things to make their acting performances fascinating. A few years ago Jeffrey Combs once made comments on Chase Masterson's radio show to the effect that Trek actors who have not done theatre are the ones who end up on "Survivor" later on. Ie: they don't have the acting chops to be able to have a legitimate acting career outside of their dumb luck to have been cast in Trek roles for reasons other than acting merit. I was laughing my butt off when I heard that because it applies perfect to Terry Farrell in my view.

^ Yes, I think I know what you're talking about. But as she never really stood out as a paticulary good actress to me, I never saw her as particulary bad. Maybe it has to do with me living in Germany. I don't know if you understand what I'm talking about, but I'm mainly familiar with Dax' dubbed German voice. It is just now with the advantage of DVD that I can begin to experience the series in its original English. I will pay more attention on her acting.

My biggest Farrell complaint is when she tried to get emotional and does that stupid raspy, breathless staccato thing. Christ, that drives me nuts!

The only thing that could've made it better was if it had come three or four season sooner.

Implying that it would mean much more of Zee. Of course, in said scenario NdB wouldn't have necessarily got the part so it's a bit of a non sequitur, but you get the idea.

Hi- Oooooo!!! :D Do you know Ed McMahon? Love him too!

Yep he was his side kick from 1957 - 1992. Do know one of his sons did die but not sure who.

I never really had a prob w/TF or Jadzia except that the character was really bland and a little too acid for my taste. I'd have like to have seen TF with less speaking roles and just happily carried out orders, smiled, and looked stunning (sorta the way Damar was in his early days)

There is a lot of Jadzia bashing. Was she that bad as a character or it is just more teaming up just to be cruel

Actually, I meant Michael Anthony Hall. How's that Johnny. Is the show renewed for another season?

Dead Zone and the 4400 have both been canceled.

I had no idea that either of them made a second seaosn. imagine the egg on my face that it was just that my local stations didn't want to have any part of them.

I'm noticing a lot of Star Trek names behind the camera on Dead Zone. :)

The Dead Zone is gone, still, it did not have that many episodes. 80 episodes in six years, little over 13 episodes per year ... not that good.

The 4400 only had 45 episodes in 4 years, that is a little over 11 episodes per year. Will say the Dead Zone was good and the 4400 was just as good. It is just that maybe to get that 26 episode margin you need to get the production out even if it is a cookie cutter episodes.
