If you won a "vacation"...

Re: If you won a holiday...

Everyone look out hanson bro has a large mouth bass attached to his crotch.

Is that a fish in your pocket or are you happy to see me?

As to the travel question, I'd probably go someplace I hadn't gone before and use the voucher to supplement what I would normally budget for the trip.

Maybe Hawaii, Greece, San Francisco, Florence, Munich. There's a lot of places I'd like to go.

Disney World. I went once with my family about 7 years ago (wow, has it already been that long?) and it was so much fun, just awesome. I love Disneyland and prefer it to Disney World's Magic Kingdom, but you can only get Epcot and Animal Kingdom and all those other great places out in Florida. My boyfriend has never been out there so it would be a real treat to take him. We'd also go to the other parks, such as Universal's.

Re: If you won a holiday...

On my list of vacation spots I want to go to but haven't been yet:

-Greek Isles. Either stay on one island, or sail about a bit between them

-Bora Bora. I want one of those little huts out over the water.

-Australia. Almost went a couple years ago, didn't work out. I've since been scuba-certified, so it would be a lot more fun now than before, anyway!

-England. Wanna see castles, Stonehenge, London, wander around a bit.

-Ireland. More castles, also a real pub crawl sounds fun.

-France. French heritage, so would be neat to check out. Plus of course Paris, museums, a bit of wine country, etc.

-Italy. Want to check out Rome and Venice, in particular. Wanted to see Venice while I was in Munich of Oktoberfest, but it was cold/rainy the day I wanted to go, plus I may have had a few drinks in me. Went back into a beer tent instead :p

That's probably enough to get me started, and I've long since used up the $2000 alotted...

Re: If you won a holiday...

I've always wanted to spend a couple of weeks in Alaska in the summer. $2000 would probably cover some of that.

Re: If you won a holiday...

Capri in Italy would be my number one destination, but I'm not sure the 2000 quid would cover it. Darn. So I'd probably head down to Bucerias and Sayulita in Mexico and live like a king for a few weeks.

Re: If you won a holiday...

I'd sell the voucher and buy something useful.

Not interested in travelling?

Not able to. My passport's expired and I couldn't go anywhere anyway. I'd probably have to pad that voucher out just to make up for the fact that hotels don't like single people.

Single supplements suck. However, I manage to have a good fortnight somewhere relatively exotic each year and have never spent £1000. Last year I had a fortnight in Egypt, including seeing the pyramids and sights of Cairo and a chance to go snorkelling in the red sea. It came in under £1000, including two nights at Gatwick (because of stupid flight times) and return travel from Cornwall.

If you won enough for a holiday for two, you could have a fairly decent holiday for one.

I don't want to drag this off topic, but I'd probably spend every night sitting in the hotel room if I went on my own. :)

Re: If you won a holiday...

$2000 dollars isn't enough for a really fancy vacation, so I'd probably drive to Southern California.

I'd visit Disneyland for the umpteenth time, hit Knotts Berry Farm, Universal Studios and Maybe Warner Brothers. Maybe drive down to San Diego for a bit.

I could stay in a cheap motel and stretch my money out.

Re: If you won a holiday...

... My passport's expired...

That reminds me; both my passports need renewal next Spring. I hate paying the government money just to be allowed to travel.

Anyway, if I had a free £1000 that I had to spend, I'd probably buy something other than a holiday. But if I had to spend it on a holiday I think I'd go to Barbados again. Always nice for a break in the sun. The £1k won't stretch far though, if you take flights into account too, so I'd supplement it with Airmiles.

Do you really think it would not be enough to see you out of the states, even for just a week!? Are you thinking 5 star here? Or is that really how worthless money has become?

If you have to cover airfare out of the $2000, then no, it would not fund a decent overseas vacation for two. For instance, it would cost $966.00 to fly two adults from Baltimore to London in April (flying mid-week). That would leave very little money for decent accommodations, food and activities.

Of course, there is always Mexico or South America or some islands if you're into that sort of thing.

I would probably take a road trip across country though, as I've never done that. Staying in swank hotels along the way, of course. ;)

Cross country trips are cool. Especially if you have time and don't have to cover any specific distance each day.

Had a quick look around, and managed to find a 5 star deal for 2 to Marrakech, 4 nights - £480 at Lastminute.com.

Now, if only I had that free voucher!

I'd either buy a kayak and go kayaking around the BC coast for a month or two, or fly to ontario and buy a canoe, and canoe around ontario for a month or two.

Re: If you won a holiday...

I'm kind of curious about Australia, myself. The 2010 Worldcon is going to be there, but I don't know yet if I'll be able to go, both because of the expense and because I'm chairing the 2010 Gaylaxicon in Montreal, and while we haven't set the dates yet, it'll probably be shortly after the Worldcon.

But wherever I chose to go, it would have to be warm when I got there. Brrrr.
