Houston becomes the largest city to elect openly gay mayor?

Can't believe no one has posted a topic about this unless I missed it. So where is the Texas love today.

Who cares if the mayor is straight, gay, bi-sexual, or wears underwear of the opposite gender? Would you have expressed the same "joy" had the Mayor-elect been a one-armed man, a wheel-chair bound woman, or perhaps a minority female under-25?

I don't care about any of the above when it comes to my elected officials. All I care about is if the person is competent enough to carry out his/her official duties.

Must be nice living in your fantasy fairy tale world. Yes all of those things are important cause it shows that we are growing as a country. Pretending that we are all the same is just as insulting as saying one group is better than another. We are different and those differences should be embraced.

'scuse me :wtf: You're the same person who tried to argue that living together is not the same as being married, and you want to claim that I'm living in a fantasy world? :wtf:

Like I said, who cares what the sexual orientation of the individual is?

He wasn't saying we are all the same, he was saying those differences shouldn't affect one's ability to hold a public office responsibly.

Perfectly reasonable really.

Exactly. Those differences shouldn't even be an issue.

Now, if we start electing puppies or aliens to office, then we might need to start talking about those differences.

To be honest, I wouldn't vote for a homosexual. The way I see it, they don't align with what I believe. Now, if I had no knowledge of their homosexuality and I agreed with their opinions on the issues I probably would vote for them. I don't see anything wrong with this.

I bet you'd throw your vote to Mike Hick-a-Bible because he's a Baptist, rather than the more qualified Mitt Romney, who is a Mormon. Am I right? The reason I ask is because Hick-a-Bible pushed for a convicted rapist to be paroled, who went on to murder.

No. I would not vote for him.

I'll just skip the part about you being, well, the usual you, and I focus on the bolded part: would you prefer that they lie (or be silent) about their sexual orientation?

What specifically about their sexuality would cause you not to vote for them?

It's simply a question of morality and to me that's more important than any political issue.

 Since you always want to start a Holy War trolling threads with your religious BS, I'll come out and state how I laugh at people like you who toss the morality card.

I laugh because of the types of people voters like you support -- You know, Rudi Guiliani, Newt Gingrich, Daniel Inouye, and in my own state, Representative Mary Fallon, who is putting in her bid for Governor.

Morality :lol::lol::lol::rolleyes:

See John, you can call my beliefs whatever you want to. I have no problem with that because I am confident in them and you're entitled to your opinion just as I am.

As far as any of the people you mentioned above, I have never voted for any of them. Would I? Maybe. Depends on if they've asked forgiveness for whatever they may have done. If they have then I would have no problem voting for them if they lined up politically.

And I respect your right not to respect morality. Your choice.

I think a gay puppy would make as just as good a politician as a straight one :p

I consider the homosexual lifestyle to be immoral. If they choose to make that public they will not get my vote. Aren't there deal breakers for you in terms of voting for someone? Well for me it's a lot more than just politics.

I wouldn't vote for anyone who openly admitted to not liking Queen.

It's just not right.

A dealbreaker for me is when the person is touted as "A good Christian". To me, that means he/she is going to be more concerned with being judgmental of others who are different, will attempt to push religious based legislation (ie prayer in school, Ten Commandment monuments, etc) rather than being focused on the needs of the citizenry.

So called "good Christians", by my observations over the years, tend to be either philanderers, pedophiles, liars, and/or thieves.

The fact that you think that living with someone is the same as being married to them really means you live in a fantasy world. Now I am only talking about the USA not the entire world.

Shouldn't really matter, and actual does matter are two different things. You would think a bunch of Americans would be in favor of a single payer universal healthcare that means everyone gets healthcare but you would be wrong. Fantasy vs reality.

Correct. It might be unpopular but I vote for a person for many reasons. Or not. Everyone does so.

Surely you don't think that a person's sexuality contains the whole of their morality, do you?
Are you going to answer this question, TLS?

So, to answer my question: yes, you would prefer that they would lie. Ok.

And by "lie" he means "stay in the closet".
