House - Why don't people like Chase and Cameron?

I seem to see a LOT of negativity towards Chase and Cameron on the interwebs. What do the folks here who are fans think?

I don't really get the hate. I love both characters, both performances, and think they add an interesting dynamic to both the show and the character of House.

I really liked Kutner and was sad to see him go and moderately enjoy Taub. The ones I wouldn't shed any tears over are Forman and Thirteen. I don't think they add anything to the show.

So...why all the hate?

I suspect a lot of it has to do with how the writers have screwed around with the characters -- giving them little development, making them seem like useless appendages following the hiring of the new Doclings...

But then again, it may be one of those unresolved jealousy of beautiful people things.

Except that Chase and Cameron don't have a role now, now that they're outside of House's orbit and out of his fellowship. Their positions in the first years of the show weren't permanent; they were they to learn how to be diagnosticians, and leaving House's program was a natural ending for them. Unfortunately, the series kept the characters around, when they weren't necessary.

According to spoilers released Chase and Cameron have rejoined the team this season.

I liked Chase, he had some funny moments. Cameron always annoyed me. I haven't watched much of the show in the past two seasons, though.

^My thoughts exactly. I liked Chase; he had an actual PERSONALITY, which is far more than I can say for Cameron.

It seemed like the relationship came out of nowhere. All of the sudden Cameron decided he was pretty and that Chase worked the same schedule so why not. It didn't fit with the widow who developed a crush on House.

I love Chase and Cameron, although I'll admit I hated Chase back in season one. They have fallen a bit to the wayside in the last two seasons, but I've liked the development of their relationship (even if it did come out of nowhere).

What's your source?

I hope it's not true, especially considering how much both of them asserted how they liked being away from the team this past season. I hate the term reset button, but...(yeah, I know 13 and Taub will still be around, which will make it crowded)

Well, Chase I think is hilarious, and I actually quite like Cameron and Chase's roles in ss4-5. I like having a familiar face in the OR and in the ER, and they both stand up to House more than his team, well, except Kutner. I wouldn't be against them rejoining the team - although I accept it would probably ruin the natural ending they had in Human Error. Perhaps with House being committed they take up diagnostics again in his absence?

I'm probably biased. I'd like to see a team of those two and Taub in a perfect world - Foreman is wallpaper and 13... well, let's face it, she'll probably die before this show goes off the air anyway, and I'm sick of her whining. She's generally just been Cameron with an illness since the start. I'd happily see her leave to have Cameron back!

But there's no reason for them to go back. That's a step backward in their careers. Foreman's only on House's team because he can't get a job anywhere else.

^ Oh I agree. I'd like to see them back solely because I happen to like them more than Foreman and Thirteen. In terms of story and character, it would not be a great move to make.

Ausiello but I haven't been able to find it on his site since. I did find it on the House MD Guide though.

Is that they're getting their old jobs back, which could be assumed to be on the Fellowship Team but could be something else I suppose. There is another spoiler that their lives will be tested by a case they take.

I certainly prefer Chase and Cameron to Foreman and 13 -- two of the blandest characters in TV ever. The portmanteau "Foreteen" is more entertaining than they are. Plus Olivia Wilde isn't much of an actress.

My mom says it's because since Cameron died her hair blonde (go back to brunette!), she and Chase look like brother and sister, and she gets creeped out. I think that's hilarious.

I have to admit that I'm somewhat surprised they went ahead and had Chase marry Cameron in the finale since Jesse Spencer and Jennifer Morrison broke up (which was why they wrote it in in the first place).

I agree, and in the case of 13.... 13! As if House would for one second put up with such a retarded name, nick-name or not.

Whoever thought of that needs to be shot.

A marriage can easily be written into a divorce if need be, so I wouldn't worry about that. If they "have" to bring one of them back, I would personally prefer Chase as I liked his character development in the last few episode, especially with the "so you'll have to kidnap me" comment concerning the bachelor party. But 13 over cameron any day. (hmmm. 13 OVER cameron...)
