Hockey Talk - 2007-2008 Season

So I assume everyone saw the hit on McAmmond? OUCH. Pretty cheap stuff, but that's Downie's game.

that was chicken shit. you know how to stop that? as long as Deano's out, Downie sits

In a meaningless game, no less

Yeah it really didn't surprise me that it was Downie - he's a cheap little fucker. I mean you just don't leave your feet to deliver a shoulder to the head, one of the worst things you can do in hockey, up there with hitting from behind. And you're right, in preseason no less.

I'm not sure about changing the rules top being suspended for as long as the player is injured. I think the best way to combat it is to hit them in the pocket book, fine them MASSIVELY as well as suspend them if they do this sort cheap bullshit. Getting rid of the instigator rule woulnd't hurt either.

Still though, soooo happy hockey is back. ;)

the fines should be higher, but the suspensions should be longer as well.

but neither can force respect and that's what's missing. I won't pull the soapbox out, but if I ruled the world Bertuzzi would still be suspended

I'm happy as a 2 peckered puppy that hockey's back :D

I was disappointed that the rest of the team didn't... you know, see if he was okay and make sure he was out of the way before they started fighting. The hit itself... well, yeah, it sucks... but the actions of the other players is what I found most objectionable.

It may just be the preseason, but I can't help noticing that the Sens are the last undefeated team.

I love Rollie. He is awesome.

Plus Edmonton has Zach Stortini, which isnt as big of a deal for the common fan but he used to play for the sudbury wolves. Which makes some of my friends back there jealous, cause i can still see him play

Rollie still has some skill, but he needs a great defense to be a big factor. I think the Oil's defense is suspect, especially with the addition of Souray who is just an awesome shot from the point and little else.

I hear Sam Gagner has looked quite impressive for the Oil since training camp began though. What about Robbie Scrempf (sp?), haven't heard much of him. Is he going to be the real deal or what?

I havent heard much of Robbie either. ITs so hard to tell who is going to be "the real deal" or not. A lot of the times theres a lot of hype surrounding people but its all melodrama. Oh well, thats the fun in things, watching people flop.

Good news--he just received a 20-game suspension for the hit. Looks like the league has had it with this kind of bullshit.

I *love* McAmmond: I think he's one of the underrated classy elite of the league, and I cried when Calgary traded him...again, but my reaction on hearing the 20 game suspension was "WHAT?!"

20 seems like a lot. I'll have to mull it over.

I hadn't even heard about this until last night. I'm clearly biased here, so I'm not sure what to think.

It seems a bit excessive to me too - it's certainly far longer then McAmmond is likely to be out.

I, personally, am disappointed by the display of machismo on the part of the other Senators.

Why is the NHL starting the season in London? Even in this thread, no one cares that the Kings beat the Ducks. It's almost impossible to get it going in America, but now they want to take it overseas? Bettman is an idiot.

^You're probably the only one. I know there might be some people who care, but I'm talking generally. Also, why start it on a Saturday or Sunday. There is so much going on this weekend in sports that of course even if Hockey was talked about in this country, it would play third or forth fiddle.

Somebody explain this to me: The Ducks and the Kings just opened the regular season, but the Sens still have two pre-season games to play?

Couldn't have said it better. Bettman needs replacing.

What else is going on?

The Ducks/Kings wasn't a bad game. Bernier, LA's new rookie goalie, stood on his head.

And the best part, as with all Ducks games, was Pronger's face when he leaves the box, having put his team down a goal. :D

Everyone's saying Flame or Canucks for #1 in the Northwest, but I have this weird idea that it's the Wild's year. I'm not happy about that, but it's the feeling I get.

I feel for the Preds this year. In advance.
