Hockey Talk - 2007-2008 Season

^ I think you're right. He brought that grit that's hard to replace.

In other news, Todd Bertuzzi has just signed with the Flames. Good luck with that, Calgary.

OH man, totally - you know it was him pushing for this move as he's been Bert's biggest and only fan (outside of Burke).

At $1.95 mil I guess it's not that bad, but when you factor in his baggage and the fact that his back still really bothers him, not so sure he's worth it. Still, they needed to replace the loss of Tanguay and Huselius.

So that's 4 teams for Bert since he got traded from Van - Fla, Det, Ana and the Flames....

Bertuzzi is a gamble, but you're right: Nobody is expecting him to notch 80-90 points, and at 2 million he comes pretty cheap.

Tanguay out, Cammilari in.

We have a ccouple guys (Lombardi, Moss, Nystrom and Boyd) who are going to have an enhanced pressence on the ice, and all these guys can fly. Huselius is gong to be missed, but just came too expensive.

Nolan is basically being replaced by Bertuzzi.

Interesting off season. I was crying doom and gloom 2 weeks ago, but now I'm rather excited for next season.

Keenan's caught in a time loop of some kind, isn't he?

I don't know if its Keenan, actually... Sutter seems to be of the mind set that Calgary is where old players come to die. Every other team is getting younger and faster, and we are getting bigger, slower and older.

I think Ryan Malone was a bigger part of the Penguins than people realize.
Certainly Pens fans appreciated him. He's always been very popular. Of course, it helps that he's a hometown player, and the son of an ex-Pen. There's been some questioning as to why the Pens didn't fight a bit more to keep him, but it was pretty well understood they couldn't afford him unless he took reduced pay.

Letting all of these players go has allowed the Pens to sign cheap, long-term contracts with Malkin, Fleury, and Orpik; all of whom are irreplaceable.

Big News today. The 2009 Winter Classic will be played at Wrigley Field in Chicago between the Red Wings and Blackhawks. I'm actually looking forward to it, but I'm not sure if Wrigley is the best place to do it. I think it might have been more fan friendly to do it at Soldier Field and still reach out to the new fans but we'll see what happens. I'm glad they're doing it again since the 2008 classic in Buffalo was definitely a classic.
