Help me with Karl Urban!

He's 8 years older than Pine and 5 years older than Quinto. Only 2 years younger than Pegg.

That sounds just about perfect then. Doesn't it parallel the original actors pretty closely? Granted Shatner and Nimoy are the same age but Kelly and Doohan were several years older, with Doohan being the eldest.

Actually Kelley was slightly older than Doohan -- Kelley was born on January 20, 1920, and Doohan on March 3, 1920. Shatner and Nimoy were born four days apart in March 1931, on the 22nd and 26th respectively.

The cast's ages when TOS began in September 1966 (and I'm counting Koenig for comparison purposes) were:

Shatner: 35
Nimoy: 35
Kelley: 46
Doohan: 46
Nichols: 33 (born December '32)
Takei: 29 (born April '37)
Koenig: 30 (born Sept. '36)

And the new cast's ages as of now are:

Pine: 27
Quinto: 30
Urban: 35
Pegg: 37
Saldana: 29
Cho: 35
Yelchin: 18

So while Chekov was originally played by an actor significantly older than the character, now Sulu is.

Ignore all the rest... assuming that Urban can do a Georgian accent (which I suspect will require a bit of "voice coaching" but isn't beyond his capabilities), can you picture Urban playing a "first season" McCoy.

Hell, I can do the Georgia accent. I reluctantly volunteer to star in the movie.

I'm having terrible trouble picturing him as McCoy, myself. And I've been a fan of his for about a decade now.

His American accent is pretty good. But there's something about the whole notion of him playing a "country doctor" that just doesn't want to parse for me.

But, it's Karl. So, if this proves true (something I always have to say when AICN is involved), I'm willing to give him the chance to make it work for me.

It says a lot about him that his acting was good even in such a budget short. The entire movie was completely watchable, and he played the rogue very well.

I kinda disliked him in Chronicles of Riddick, but that was because the Vakko character was whipped by his wife, and I couldn't really get over the ridiculous hair-do... but I think he's a good actor, and I'm curious to see how this cast will be together in these iconic roles.

Hey, we agree twice in one day! Something must be fundamentally wrong with the space-time continuum... ;)

StarTrek.com has confirmed that Urban has signed the contract. It's the real deal.

I haven't seen any movies showing why he'd be good for Bones. But to see a good performance, rent The Bourne Supremacy. He's pretty good in that.
