Gonna bust my ENT cherry soon.

My Wife Kathy and I are big Trek fans...we're Niners for the most part.
But...suprisingly...never did Enterprise. :alienblush:
Well...all that is soon to change as we're on the last few Episodes of the last Season of DS9 (A second viewing of the series for us) and Amazon just delivered all 4 Seasons of Enterprise a coupla days ago.:techman:
So...I guess the question is...anything I need to know beforehand to make the experience better?
Should my expectations be high, medium or low as compared to the other Series?
Or is it just a jump in and enjoy kinda situation?

PS- No Spoilers please!

Just take it from the top, and recognize that they were trying to do something a little different. The tone will not be what you are used to. The pilot episode, by the way, is very well done!

As I consider myself a Niner, too, I think you're going to like Enterprise. The series have much more in common than TNG/VOY and ENT. For one thing, both are partially arc-based. (But I don't think it's too much when I say that not all story threads are resolved in the end; some are even forgotten completely. So don't be surprised if some elements never return at all.) Also, both DS9 and ENT have a similar feel of camaraderie between the main characters. That's something I loved. Watch out for Jeff Combs as Shran; he's one of the most interesting characters of the series. You might also pay close attention to the Vulcans. Something's going on there. And that's something that will be resolved later on. ;)

And as a general advise, don't think too much about canon issues. The series is much more consistent than most people make it out to be.

Oh, and have fun! ;)

I would take from top see I just saw Broken Bow 1-2 on Monday during marathon and I own all 4 seasons also. Of course I kinda half a** watched the show on scifi when it aired on Mondays. So bought the seasons that I had not seen then thought you know instead of tapeing so much easier owning the whole thing. And for me its fun just to watch the eps that I have read the synopsis on but we all have our own way of watching.

Just enjoy the show :)

I'd say the last two seasons of Enterprise are better than the first two, particularly in any similarities to DS9, so if you're losing faith, just hang in there a bit longer. :)

As for quality expectations- well, better to keep your expectations low and be pleasantly surprised than to go in with them high and be disappointed, right?

Hate to put it this way, but I will say, if you haven't already heard, that Enterprise had what was, for me, the most disappointing final episode of any of the series. I'm not sure if that constitutes a spoiler, but you might be advised to steer clear of it.

I guess overall I'd consider it about on par with Voyager, definitely not as good as DS9.

Seasons one and two are in the mold of TOS/TNG--standalone episodes of the week. The show isn't very plot-driven in these two years and doesn't really offer any new stories. The writers rely on borrowing old Trek chestnuts and hoping the experience being processed by a less experienced crew would make it entertaining. Sometimes it worked other times it didn't.

Season three is a vast improvement. If you enjoy Lost or Heroes and the DS9 Final Chapter you should enjoy this although it is far from a consistent season. There are still wide fluctuations in quality but when focusing on the core threads it really creates a nice unique mythology. Like the first two seasons this was more of ENT being a Star Trek series in the 22nd century than a prequel.

If you love TOS and DS9's Circle trilogy then there is plenty to enjoy.

You'll enjoy the look of the show. It's goreous and has some of the best visual FX of any Trek series. It's the first to make good use of 16:9 widescreen. Previously only the films came close to the kind of spectacle Enterprise at times achieved.

I'd actually try to forget everything you know about Star Trek and you'll have the same perspective as the crew of the Enterprise NX-01. Out there for the first time, with only the Vulcans sometimes annoyingly, looking over their shoulder.

At times it may appear to be dragging it's feet but hang in there until the end of Season Two... that's when the shit really starts to hit the fan.

For my money, the last two years of Enterprise are among the best modern Trek has ever offered. I was gutted when they pulled the rug from under what was a very promising direction.

Get ready to fast-forward through the song!

If you lose interest, go to The Forge and the next two following shows (Awakening and Kir'Shara). Out of all of Enterprise, these are the best and the most TOS-like without the fanboy wank of some of season 4.

Good luck!

don't listen to people who tell you that the first two seasons are bad. there will always be rotten apples in the first two seasons of every Trek except TOS. ENT is no exception. keep an open mind and just try to enjoy the series in itself. it's a great series just by itself.

The trick for me was to just pretend it was a parallel universe. But I'm hard core TOS and much later Niner (which I didn't see until after Enterprise). If you take it as a parallel universe, inconsistancies become meaningless and nowhere near as distracting. Oh, and as hard it may seem, I'd seriously try to avoid the final episode. Or at least treat whatever the second to the last was, as the real final episode in the spirit/one of TOS's last just being another episode. As Trek finale's go, you've already seen the best of all of them. Period.

I'm not kidding. Avoid the series finale if you have the intestinal fortitude. If you don't, you will be sorry and taint the whole experience (there are valid reasons it's always first or second place of polls/lists of the worst episodes in ALL of Trekdom.).

Other than the above, just enjoy the show and don't worry about expectations... they often ruin any show.

the show really benefits from watching them close together.
that way the bad ones like terra nova are not so over powering when episodes like andorian incident and shuttle pod one come after ward.

This is great stuff guys...we really appreciate it.
Wow...you really think I should not watch the LAST EPISODE?? :wtf:
I should really stop before the finale?
Is it really that bad? Like "Dallas: the whole series was a dream" bad? :vulcan:
I'll do it...I'll stop before the finale if it's really universally advised.
Do most folks feel this way?

This is really helping BTW. We're pretty sad about finishing DS9 again last night and now getting pretty psyched about what , to us, is new Trek.
The canon / continuity stuff won't bother me too much as long as they make some effort to make it fit. If they completely ignore all canon, I'll be a bit irked.
And I know about the song...I think I watched the beginning of the 1st Episode back when it debuted. I remember thinking TV Guide had gotten it wrong...no way this is a Star Trek opening sequence.

So...really? Skip the last Ep?

The true finale is Terra Prime. But you'll see. ;)

No, I wouldn't skip any episode. Make up your own mind. Yeah, the episode is pretty bad. But not that bad. It just doesn't work as a finale for Enterprise. It's more or less an attempt at a finale for the whole franchise. Also, the end montage is worth a watch.

It's fine. If you have an open-mind -- see it and judge for yourself.

By the way, I hated Terra Prime. (Opinions differ on episodes ... pretty much like every other rendition of Star Trek.)

No, you shouldn't skip the finale. Like so much on the internet, people seem to be prone to exaggeration and going to extremes. It is not the abomination everyone moans about. At worst it is simply a mediocre finale with a good story idea poorly executed but littered with several nice character moments.

There are far worse hours of ENT or Trek for that matter.

^ :techman::bolian: If there was an applaud emoticon, I'd use it. Rabittooth, you should judge for yourself whether it's good or not.

same here. you should watch it and judge for yourself. my philosophy in life hangs on a belief that I never allow other people to make my decisions for me. IMO, it's the only way to live life.

Sorry, but this is too funny! :rommie:

Eh, you should definitely watch the finale. Personally, I didn't enjoy it, but I know that some of the eps I liked are not well-liked either. Who knows?

If you feel things get slow, don't be afraid to fast forward through 'em. I loved season 3, some people loved season 4. Or you may love it all the way through!

Hope you enjoy it.

Consider Terra Prime the finale and don't go into the actual finale with any expectations. It has some fine moments, thanks to the talented actors of the Enterprise cast, but the story, such as it is, is crap. (IMO)

You're going to love Jeffrey Combs in Enterprise! :bolian: :)

Just consider the final ep to be a bad TNG ep that shows how inaccurate history can be even during that time.
