Has anyone played System Shock 1 and 2 and can tell me if 1 is required to fully enjoy 2? Both are on sale, but 2 looks much better, and I remember the demo creeping me out so much that a jumpscare made me throw the mouse across the room and quit the game

I've only ever played the second one, and I enjoyed it then, so I do think it's possible to enjoy it without playing the first one. Plus, you can mod the second game to make it look even better.

I played the old System Shock 2 without playing the first and was fine. No clue about the remakes.

They only remade the 1st so far, and they're apparently still working on an enhanced version for the 2nd

Both are excellent games and pioneers of what we now call the "immersive sim". But you don't need to play the first to understand what's going on in the second.
