Is it corny? yes it is but the actual gameplay is really fun.
I think the gameplay itself is fairly decent, but the characters are annoying.
Can't argue with that.
No option to kill your own companions.
Even in Saints Row 3 you could kill members of the Saints.

Their whole model of buying up exclusives and throwing money at devs and studios to lock everyone else out of games and while I don't believe it there has always been talk about ties to China and China money involved in Epic
