Absolutely. I wasn't trying to knock Fuller down. I don't really know anything about the guy, certainly not enough to have a personal opinion. I've never seen a minute of any of his shows prior to DSC. I was just speculating on the impact and timing of his departure...which isn't exactly anything new or revolutionary, BTW.

I suppose you are correct by definition. I extended it to mean using speculation to reach a specific negative conclusion. I don't buy it because there can be more to a departure than "creative differences," which is the equivalent of the marital "irreconcilable differences," which can often just be a euphemism for "the sex was lousy."

It's really more of a "ignoring what someone said and substituting your own (loosely related) argument which you demolish"

Of course. The point is it requires an actual statement to misrepresent. With no statement there can only be speculation. Negative speculation could be, at worst, cynicism, not a strawman.

Seems like the replacement showrunner for Fuller will be Jesse Alexander. JA also was on the staff for Discovery for a while snd co-wrote epidodes 4 & 7.

He struck me as having good ideas for Trek in The Fifty Year Mission; I would love to know what happened on three shows in a row that caused him to leave. Certainly not a great look for the guy. Is it common to have a showrunner leave that many productions in such a short time period?

I hope one day we get a good deconstruction of what he intended for the show versus what we got. I'm feeling pretty darn good about the show as a whole, and I wonder what he added to the tale and what developed after him. I also wonder what it's like to come in as Berg and Harberts have and take up someone else's show and make it your own. Everyone responds to different ideas; I wonder how their direction and (no doubt) at least subtly different interests as showrunners will shape what comes next.

Hannibal - canceled after 3 seasons.
Pushing Daisies - canceled after 2 seasons.
Dead Like Me - cancelled after 2 season
Wonderfalls - cancelled after 1 season
STD - left halfway through 1st season
American gods - left after 1 season
Amazing stories - leaves before show even starts.

So why is this guy a big deal? Seems like an idea man who can't execute a project. Maybe he should stick to writing and not producing.

Yeah you and others have identified qualities that suggest he is a "good bloke" but in the wrong role. It's a shame when that happens - he clearly is talented but may have been "kirk-like" in that he has his ideal role NOT at the top but as the the "ideas man" ("not the admiral"). If that's truly the case, and he feels he "deserves" a more senior role, or networks think he can only "be better" in such a role, it's a shame. He might just be the right guy in the wrong place in shows.

After all Jason Isaacs was in many movies that performed terribly at both the box office and critically (Event Horizon being one - though having watched it, I begin to understand why it is gaining status as a cult-classic that the never-to-be-produced Director's Cut might have made into a truly great movie) - but casting agents saw something in him and kept him playing the right roles......so we know a person can be slotted into the right position....but so much depends on other factors.
