Fitness Diary, apostle83

I am now 2 pounds from my initial goal. Weight loss is definately slowing down. Oh well, that just means work harder and stay the course, huh? :p

278. This is the least I've weighed in over 2 years. Maybe as many as three. The crazy thing was that I went from 235 at the end of my senior year to 290 at 19. :/ Not good. Not good at all. To have erased so much in two months is encouraging though in the big picture.

My bike came in, and I've ridden ten miles total in two five mile increments. Tomorrow, I begin commuting to work with it. I hope my balls aren't numb by the time I get there. :|

Anyone know a good place to buy frozen fish filets?

Good work man! :techman: I'm getting close to dropping below 180 and I can't wait. I'm hoping to be 170 or less by Christmas.

So how are the balls? Numb from all that biking? :p

Just chiming in here. At the beginning of last September I weighed 258 pounds. For the record I'm about 6'3'' or 6'4''. Went on the three-day diet and then the cabbage soup diet for a bit less than 2 months, combined with walking between 4 and 6 miles a day. By the end of October I was down to 216. In the almost 1 year since then that crept up to about 225, but in the past month I've knocked it back down to 215. I'm shooting for an even 200 by November.

Juan, I'm glad you lost the weight. I think though, that in doing so, you're destroying muscle and lowering your metabolism, making it harder for you to keep the weight off.

I weighed today. 276. That is half of my goal of 72 pounds lost. :) That is 36 total pounds lost since July 28. :) Yay!

I dunno about that. Between push-ups and crunches plus leg development from walking and running (not to mention the 9 miles a day I biked to work and back 5 days a week for 6 months), I've got more muscle than ever, based on my strength and reflection in the mirror. I've also managed to keep most of that weight off for a solid year now... so far I haven't encountered any negative side effects.

OK. Good for you then bro!

I haven't exercised since Sunday. I've been sick/throwing up. Been to the doctor for blood work. He thinks I have something wrong with my thyroid and is also screening for *gulp* cancer. :(

I don't think I have cancer, but he knows most of my family in the area and is most of their doctor and... many of them have gotten the initial news from him that they have cancer. So he's being double sure about everything.

I haven't even weighed myself. With my lack of diet, I've probably lost muscle this week though and weight as well... not good. :(

^I hope you feel well soon. I'm sure it's nothing serious. Take care.

For some good news, I am back in the 170s! I weighed exactly 179.0 lbs this morning!

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Lots of things can be funky with a thyroid... cancer is just one of them. On the upside, while it may not be great for working out, I've found that being sick is a great way to shed pounds. Muscle can always be built.

Juan's right, there are a wide variety of things that can be wrong with the thyroid. Many of these issues, if untreated, will result in weight gain. So perhaps you will receive some good news out of this (that's how you have to treat these things sometimes ;) ).

On another note, how did things turn out with your (former?) fiancee? I hope for the best, for you at least.

I saw her this weekend. It was surreal, doing things like going for walks and holding hands... especially since my foot was hurt like a son of a gun. Not limping was hard. We're going to get back together, it's just a matter of when. She's working through something I don't fully understand.

Other than walking with her this weekend, I haven't exercised since last Tuesday. I feel rundown, my foot is killing me (the one I've always had problems with) and I am afraid when I can workout again (I'm feeling like I CAN tonight, so I want to) that I just... won't do it. But I want to do it.

I've been eating well. I haven't weighed myself lately. The ex said I had lost weight and was looking healthier.

Don't stop you seem to be doing really well. You'll be down to my weight before you know it!

RAMA

Well, the ankle wasn't doing so hot last night. I did upper body.

My dumb bell press is really coming along nicely. When I got back into this, 45lbs was a lot for me to do! Last night, I warmed up with 12 at 60lbs, then did 10 at 70lbs, then did only 4 at 80lbs, and I REALLY had to push through on the last 80 pound rep.

Also, I did 10 pullups on the assist machine, and was able to drop 30 lbs off of how much help I needed compared to last week! So now, I only require 145 lbs of assistance to do ten pullups. Man, I'm a girl! Oh well, it will get better, hopefully.

I'm going to try to do lower body tonight. Starting next week I hope to make Thursdays my only off day from training.

273 lbs. Thus, I have lost 39 lbs. I... have been eating more since starting my hypothyroidism medicine, and continue to lose! That said, I have to be careful that I'm not eating too little still, because I don't want to eat my own muscle through my newfound metabolism.

33 pounds to go before my initial goal is met!

That said... I feel like when I get to my goal, like I will still be fat and bloated. I'm not saying this in a bad body image sort of way, just realizing that even when I was at my "peak" in HS, I didn't have abs, had a *small* gut, etc. I had pipes though. ;)

Oh well, I'll just have to come up with a new goal, when I reach my first goal. And there is no denying that 72 pounds losing is a big goal... and I'm more than half way there!@

Don't be hard on yourself, pull ups are hard even for people who've been fit all their lives (I'm not one of those).

You will likely find that your synthroid (assuming that's what you were put on for Hypothyroidism) will help accelerate your weight loss some. Watch the salt, btw.

Watch the salt? Why is that?

Iodine and Iodinized salt have a bad effect on the thyroid gland. The addition of Iodine to salt, done to combat other malnourishment issues in the 30s or 40s, is believed to have a role in the rise in hypothyroidism diagnoses in recent years. That and better understanding of the disease.

I understand that there are good salt substitutes or other types of salt than the common iodinized form that are just as good. Personally, I just use the salt sparingly.

Hopefully, if you had any of the other symptoms of hypothyroidism, you'll get some relief from those from your Synthroid, as well. Most related to a fitness thread, you should find that your Triglyceride count should be reduced, assuming that you had any problem with that.

DJP - good to know. I'm only 25. I will make sure to talk to my doctor about that!

In other news, I've lost 41 lbs now!
