First memory of a space program

First thing I remember- Skylab falling. I remember the Skylab alerts on T.V., and wondering if it would fall on my house!

Me too (I was in the 4th grade)..........but I guessed it would probably hit water - it hit Australia and killed a cow:rommie:

Mid-60s Gemini missions - coverage would cut out my Saturday morning cartoon fix :klingon:

Kids!

I would give my right arm to be able to see all of that live.

:p
I have vaguer memories of earlier missions, but I think the first I can recall following from launch to splashdown was the 1965 dual mission featuring the Gemini 6A/7 orbital rendezvous. It is not recorded in memory whether Saturday morning cartoons were allowed to interrupt, but I'm inclined to doubt it -- space shots were a Seriously Big Deal at that time and anyone not in the middle of a life-or-death emergency tried to watch all of it. The networks knew it and covered everything they could, and it was all fascinating.
