Fan Film Creation and Critique

How about 'Django Unchained'? A 'southern' where absolutely none of the stunts were meant to be convincing.

I really liked it because I'm into the different kinds of Westerns and caught a lot of the references (for eg. the Tamblyns having cameos), but it seemed to do pretty well with casual audiences. The ones who weren't absolutely horrified, that is.

A favorite westerns list just has to include The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

Except for the music, I always kinda preferred 'Pale Rider' and 'High Plains Drifter.'

Sacrilege, I know.

Easily my favorite would be The Searchers.

Also worth watching: High Noon, True Grit (2010), Tombstone, 3:10 to Yuma, and Unforgiven.

It's pretty fascinating to watch the John Wayne and Jeff Bridges versions of True Grit back to back and see the difference. I prefer the 2010 film, too.

Second Django Unchained, Unforgiven, Tombstone (it's a mess, but it's got Kilmer's Doc Holliday in it). Also a fan of The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward, Robert Ford. Great performances by Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck. The Proposition, an Australian Western with Guy Pearce, is also pretty great.
