Exeter

You know what guys? Blame all the delays on me. I am jinxed.
Every project I've ever done voiceover for takes FOREVER to come out. It's ALL my fault. I jinx every project I touch.

Starship Exeter weren't the first and won't be the last. Ever heard of a zombie movie called RISEN? Probably not, cause it hasn't come out yet. Yeah I'm in that, too.

I apologize to everybody.

I'm not sure if you're kidding or not, because I don't know who you are. If you're really involved with Exeter, what do you do, if I may ask?

I'll have to remember that excuse.....

I have it on pretty good authority that Exeter will be completed soon.

Soon after Dubya wins his third term

On the Exeter Forum someone says that they are really close now but that we should not be expecting anything for the next few weeks. However it is not clear to me weather this is just somebody speculating over there.

I do some of the background intercom voiceovers for TTI. So as you can see, it is plainly all my fault. :)

And yes, also the reason Starship Intrepid hasn't come out yet. LOL

;)

What about Hathaway? Is that your fault, too? :D

Seriously, it must be fun to be involved with Exeter. Did you get to be on the set?

Hathaway isn't my fault. Had nothing to do with them.

And unfortunately, I didn't get to the Exeter set, living in Canada and all. No, I just e-mailed them, telling them I liked doing voiceover stuff, and they gave me a list of lines to record for them. So I did it all from the comfort of my own living room. :)

A likely story. ;)

Heyyy, I like that. I'm gonna try to get in on that action, if there's ever another episode. :)

Oh, oh... if I guess do I get a prize?

:D

As someone who has seen the story all the way through, the wait is worth it. More importantly, what was being worked on during all this time was story elements... and that to me says everything about Exeter. Story isn't just very important... it is of paramount importance.

One of the sad things about fan films is poor story development or poor story presentation. Often times these things are more a way of showing off special effects than telling a story worth telling.

So yeah, I was a little disappointed early on when things were delayed by effects stuff (which was why I volunteered to help out with aspects of that where I could), but when all of TTI was played out in front of an audience and we talked about their reactions over lunch later that day, I realized why they need to do what they did and what sort of task they had decided to undertake.

Honestly, Act III could have been handed out to everyone months ago and I highly doubt that many people would have known the difference. But that has more to do with fan film low expectations rather than all this work being a wasted effort.

Sadly, fans these days expect this stuff... like it was owed to them. If you get anything else ever, what you have already gotten was a gift to us all. This isn't anyone's job at Exeter, no one is making money at this... there is no network or corporate backers, and as such, there are no fixed deadlines.

It gets done when it is done. No sooner and no later.

Still, I've already seen it and I still am waiting for it to come out in finished form. I've watched what is done almost as many times as any Trek episode I've ever seen. I surely can't say as much for other fan productions.

I never talk about the specifics of what causes a hold-up - effects, editing, rewrites, reshoots - because I don't want to direct the audience's attention toward one element or another. If the finished product works well enough, hopefully the audience doesn't notice the area that was a problem at all.

For example, a big reason that Act One took so long after the teaser was that we needed to replace a model. I didn't even want to draw folks attention to the fact that we'd be using models to supplement the sets - and most viewers have noticed some of the miniatures but not all of them.

True... but at the same time I don't think I pointed out exactly what the problem was and (more importantly) I think it is only fair to you and Dave that people know that the hold up wasn't technical effects (which is often assumed by many). What both of you guys have accomplished for Exeter has been extraordinary... and I would rather not see anything undermine your work.

The issues aren't anyone's fault (they just happened), but sadly in a vacuum of information people on the outside have a habit of assigning blame. Neither you nor Dave should have to shoulder that. Nor should anyone shoulder issues that were beyond anyone's control.

The fact that fandom wants to assign blame is really the tragedy here as it isn't going to speed anything up but could stop people from wanting to produce any future works.

I, for one, would rather that no one at Exeter be put under that pressure so that when it comes time to think about future Exeter voyages, you guys don't have second thoughts about being a part of it.

The real story problem is that Jimm wanted to edit out my cameo appearence.

I've fought him tooth-and-nail. There have been threats. A little blood's been spilled, and I got a referral to a lawyer from a Mr. Ellison out in California.

In the end, I won. My entire four-minute-thirty-two-second fan dance will appear, uncut, in Act Three.

I mean, if Uhura can do it so can I.

Wow! I didn't know about that!

Hmmm... not to offend, but I hope you used pretty big fans!

And will this change the rating of the show to anything above PG-13?
