EURO 2008 - The Official Trek BBS Thread

^ He forgot to include "except when facing Italy." :)

Ze Germans lost to Italy in the latter stages of the World Cup in 70, 82, and 06.

My, except for that top column you wouldn't think Germany had won this game.

That said, I didn't think Germany was that bad. It's just that Turkey was very good today, except at the most important aspect: scoring goals.

We now have the swiss feed with a small delay of a few seconds, just in time for the 2:1 for Germany. Good thing Rüstü (sp?) is the only goalie in this tournament worse than Lehmann.

Yeh the BBC Radio 5 guy was becoming a prophet he kept telling us stuff just before they happened and when he did it for Turkey's 2nd goal, I was just pissing my self because he shouted Goal when the ball was still in transit from the cross

Amazing. Turkey plays, and Germany wins. I cannot believe this German team is in the final and most likely to take it home...

I also don't remember ever being two cut-offs in a football game during a Euro or World Cup. WTF?

We lost the feed in the States and missed all the second half goals.

This German side was unimpressive despite the win. I thought they would have an easy time with the Turks. And for those few who were baffled as to why Lehman lost his place at Arsenal, I don't think they are baffled any longer.

From what I could tell, that was an awesome game. Except for the part where Germany won in the end.

Of course, I didn't get to see much of the game. I live less than 10 kilometres from the ORF (Austrian TV) central, so .. my reception was limited. Even when there might have, theoretically, been a picture.

I can, if you look at the teams Germany had to beat to get to the final, and who the others had to beat on their way...

But I think that Germany will be an underdog against Spain and especially Russia in the final - regardless of which of the two teams wins the semi.

Yeah, pretty embarrasing for the organisation. But there were really immense thunder-storms here.

^The BBC and UEFA are saying the problem was in Switzerland too. Local broadcast problems in individual countries don't account for the total loss of the feed across most of the world.

I don't blame Hiddink for kicking us out of the tournament, the man was just doing his job, and we just didn't play very well. Actually I'm rooting for Russia now. There's a little bit of Dutch pride left in the tournament! Go Hiddink! :)

A demonstration of the beautiful game by Spain today, though against very sub-par Russians. Impressive. I hope they can keep this form against Germany. ;)

The Russians had to ran out of steam sometime. Playing at 200% for three games in a row, had to take its toll.

So now we will see what kind of football will prevail in the end, Germany's cynical and cost effective style, or Spain's attack football, with a little brains in the mix, but not forgetting passion.

And I cannot believe I'll be rooting for los Españoles, carajo... :D

Well, think of it like this - their best player is a Catalan, and they have at least one player from Euskadi (and "When Xabi was 15, he spent time in Co.Meath in Ireland to learn English. During this time he won an All Ireland schools medal playing Gaelic Football. He is the only current premiership player to have an All Ireland and a Champions League winner's medal." - holy crap!) so think of it as rooting for the representatives of the homelands of two of Iberia's other non-castellano languages!

And, ok, so there are non-Catalans and non-Basques in there, but meh.

I'm looking forward to this final, I have to say. No David Villa for Spain it looks like though. Somehow, when you have a team with players like Fabergas and Alonso coming off the bench, I think they'll be able to cope.

Spain 3, Ze Germans 1

Crap 1st half but 2nd was much better and a Spain/Germany final should be a real cracker though bad news for Spain...

David Villa is set to miss the EURO 2008 Final

However IMO, Spain can focus around Torres which will help him because I feel he is a shadow of the player he is for Liverpool when Villa plays next to him. Also if Fabregas doesn't start then the Spanish manager is a little loopy because Xavi and Ineista have been average.
