Spockrocks, awesome thread you've started! And welcome to the board.
As far as tools, any improptu sketchpad, your favorite pen/pencil, a decent flatbed scanner, a cheapo wacom (bamboo, etc.) and any decent piece of software (I use an ancient copy of photoshop I bought years ago, Gimp is nice, I guess it depends whether you are more
comfortable working with Raster or Vector "engines"....). I tend more towards the raster pixel editors, anything that features Layers....
Here's some stuff I dug up, crude WIP's in various states of abandonment... Some older, some newer, some recently inspired...
As I said, CRUDE...I like seeing rough scribbly napkin sketches and embryonic ideas...

There are stories and reasonings behind this batch of uploaded muck...odd bits of fantasy and drunkedness on my part, mostly.
Main thing is to share art and ideas, thoughts and musings (which I don't do enough)...

I myself have a binder full of various sketches that I have been planning to post, but wanted to first refine them, darken the lines, and fill up any blank spaces. Most are probably not ready for scanning yet.

JudeXavier- I love your "Slab Viper" idea. Combines the best trait of Bryan Singer's Mk IV Viper and Buck Rogers' Thunder fighter.

As for your "Wing Thing" design, I could easily see it as a Romulan Bird of Prey from the JJ-verse.

That Slab viper is great. Were the Galactica to have returned to Earth in the timpe period of Buck Rogers in the 25th century--I can see this design. Heck, a lot of props and model work were used by both.
