Did Harve Bennett like Star Trek VI?

I know he felt he couldn't do a classic cast VI in the timeframe he was given and that he wanted to do the Academy film, and I also know he has stated that he has no regrets about not participating in Trek VI.

But has he ever given his opinion on The Undiscovered Country?

Has ever said, "You know what, I saw it and I thought Nick and Leonard did a good job." or "I saw it and had some problems with what they did."

I've done a little online research, but all I've been able to turn up was the fan recording of Harve giving his opinion on the Trek 09 film.

I'm wondering if anyone saw a Starlog interview or something where he discussed the final product of VI.

in the pages of the Trek VI Cinefantastique bennett sounded abit bitter about VI - 'sitting in a theatre watching the trailer for Trek VI you didn't get that electric shock that you did for other movies. on the contrary you got some titters, talk back to the screen, I was startled to find the audience restless'

he was obviously bummed about not doing the academy movie (which he also intended to direct). there probably was that reaction to trailers for non fan movie goers who had stumbled out of Trek V, but trek fans were ecstatic Meyer was back writing/directing again after the disaster of V. and when it was released everyone loved it, fans and non fans (almost like a sleeper for non fans) I don't know what Bennett thought of the final movie, it dosnt say

Wow, his reaction was pretty much the opposite of not only mine, but probably most other audience-members out there -- that very first, Christopher Plummer-narrated trailer was incredible, and painted a picture signifying that something very special was on the way.

And virtually all subsequent trailers and TV ads, likewise. If anything, fandom-hype was through the roof for the movie by the time it was finally released.

I can see him being predisposed not to. He pretty much wanted to do with JJ Abrams did 18 years later. An origin story with a much younger cast, but include a handoff from the old guard. Which probably implies some jealousy of the eleventh too.

The Undiscovered Country was the right film to make in celebration of the 25th Anniversary though. Saw it three times the week it was released. Fantastically entertaining. Even with too many Shakespeare quotes, purple Klingon blood and some TNG set reuse. Wouldn't change it for the world.

Did he say the audience grew "restless' during the trailer?

If so--he's a moron. Whether it was the teaser of the full trailer--to suggest it was causing "titters' and "restlessness' proves he's a straight up liar.

The trailers were good and audiences don't get restless during 2 minute trailers. What an idiot comment if it is truly what he said.

I had a massive lump in my throat during that trailer and streams of tears running down my face. I didn't much like the movie but the trailer was the shit!

I never liked the teaser trailer. It really just felt like it was fan written to make the characters feel like real people; "they were our guides, our heroes and our friends." If any non fans were going to "titter" or "talk back" or roll their eyes, it would be at that trailer.

The full trailer, however, was beautiful. Perfectly edited and scored, it was thrilling and the best, most effective Trek trailer I've ever seen. Very exciting.

yeh Always thought it was too shmaltzy. Can understand Bennetts reservations at the time and non fans LOLing in cinemas (especially coming after V) The main trailer was magnificent though, looked like the ultimate star trek movie

I liked the projected images on the ship trailer, and thought those individual clips were well chosen. But I kept wondering how they did it.

They did it very carefully. This is from a friend of mine who knew the editor on that teaser, "He said that when he was cutting that montage of all the TV footage, he was working with the negatives. These were irreplaceable sources. There were armed security guards outside his bay at all times. He was cutting with this material and thinking that if something happened to it, there goes Star Trek. Forever."

Wow that's interesting
must be the only time TOS footage appeared in cinemas. I guess for that reason alone the trailer was pretty special

After his heavy involvement with and promotion of STAR TREK V, Harve shouldn't be throwing stones ...

Let's not forget the Enterprise flyby in Airplane 2: The Sequel (@ 2:04) predating TUC by nearly a decade, and just one year after TUC, the clip from "The Omega Glory" in the Eddie Murphy film, Boomerang.

And the unauthorized use of footage in the 1974 Turkish Star Trek parody film.
