I have to say I am not surprised, since my store was part of the initial closings. I knew that was merely the death rattle and that the rest of the stores would be going down along with us in short order. Looking back over the last 4 years of working for them I can see the slow and steady progression to the bottom. It's too bad the morons in charge couldn't see it.
RIP Circuit City, I met some cool people while working for you, and made a lot of money. Now, please let me know when they plan on bulldozing my old store, I'd like to watch.
Edit: Just a word of wisdom to anyone considering shopping the liquidation sales: the initial price drops are next to nothing, around 5-10% and they *do* bring the prices back to MSRP. They can claim they aren't "jacking up prices" since they are actually bringing them to their regular price, but typically you'll find things at other retailers or CircuitCity.com to be far cheaper. I got yelled at a lot during my store's liquidation for that. I'd recommend waiting until your local store has signs up denoting "Last 5 Days" because thats when they really start getting desperate.
Oh, and don't do any of the following unless you wish to bring the wrath of a soon-to-be-laid-off employee upon you.
Don't:
1. Ask when the last day is. They don't know, so don't ask.
2. Ask if the store is closing. It's painfully obvious.
3. Complain that you're not being helped. They'll all be out of a job soon, nobody gives a crap.
4. Try to return something. Signs will be everywhere: "No Returns - All Sales Final" Make sure you're happy with your purchase before you pay. If you have any problems you go through the manufactuer.
Basically, don't be an asshole. The employees there all just lost their jobs and are working on borrowed time. Don't make it any more difficult.
