I think we're mostly over it already. What a disapointment.
Before I commit to this thing, I want to be clear on something - the poll results are binding on the studio, right?

Uh, and as for Pine, no comment. I'll tell you how much I loathe or like him as the intrepid Iowan after I've seen the movie, just like everyone else - yes, including Quinto (the vote's still out in my view if not in anyone else's.)

Temis hit the nail on the head. The complaints have only just started, and as I've said before, it wouldn't matter who was hired for the role. People would be going insane even if they pulled a "Polar Express"/"Beowulf" and CGI'd Shatner into the part (though that would be cool, granted).
I know nothing about Chris Pine, and for me that's good. He's a better choice than someone with a history - just look at the responses already to Simon Pegg's casting as Scotty.
At least Pine looks like he could be a Starfleet officer. I had worries that they might cast someone in his teens.

I can see him as Kirk, potentially... though he seems, well... too TALL. Maybe it's just the way he's been photographed, but one of the things I liked about Kirk was that it was his ATTITUDE, not his HEIGHT, that made him a stand-out. So, how tall is this guy anyway?
That said... he has roughly the right facial structure, jawline... I can easily imagine him with the "Kirk Smirk." I wonder what his voice sounds like? Shatner's voice is pretty atypical... it's harder to match his voice than his face (after all, Shatner was a "pretty boy actor" himself, wasn't he?)
I'm cautiously optimistic re: him. We'll see. I think they've done well with Spylark. And I can actually imagine EoMerCoy working (if he can actually pull off a convincing Georgia accent).
That said, I'm still reeling over some of the "second banana" casting choices...

I voted that I didn't like him. I still hold out hope though, I based my vote on his look but I would like to hold out hope for this and hope her turns out spectacular. As much as I may not like some of the casting choices, it's not my movie to make and the creative team has to do their thing, as a fan I can just hope for greatness.
