Cast members who disliked each other

I'm sure that there have been several instances of cast members who didn't get along with each other, but I'm just curious what some of them were.

Two I can think of are: William Shatner and George Takei (although it sounds Shatner had issues at one time or another with just about everybody except Nimoy, but made up and/or were/are on good terms with them) and Kate Mulgrew and Jeri Ryan. I've also read here that Shatner and Kirstie Alley didn't get along, but I haven't seen that anybody else.

I recall reading that, initially, Shatner and Nimoy weren't kind to each other behind the scenes because Spock was so popular. I also want to say that I read somewhere that Shatner and Doohan didn't get along very well either.

The tension between Shatner and Doohan is well known. Doohan once said something to the effect of "I like Captain Kirk the character, but I've never been able to stand Shatner."

There are reports suggesting they reconciled within the last few years before Doohan died, however.

^ That's it.

I remember that Nichelle and Shatner did a documentary a few years ago and she flat out told Shatner that she hated him.

They seem to have reconciled too. The only one I think he's still not on good terms with is Takei.

As I understand it, Shatner, Nimoy and De Kelley were always fairly close. There was never the squabbling within those three that there was with the rest of them.

That said, I also firmly believe that Shatner is willing to bury the hatchet with the rest of the TOS cast, but they're the ones who won't fucking let it die.

As I said in the original post, I knew Shatner had issues just about everybody except Nimoy. The reason that I did not say Kelley is because of the incident with Kelley's dog, although it seems like they made by the time of the movies (maybe even by the end of TOS).

I've long believed that a lot of this is made up.

They probably didn't get a long. But people don't get along with their co-workers all the time. The only reason why Nichols/Doohan/Takei/Koenig "hated" Shatner so much publicly is because it helped sell books.

Yeah, I get the sense Shatner is quite a character and can be unwittingly difficult. Some of the other fellows are aloof with him but that's trumped up to all out grudges to get their books sold.

William Shatner and George Takei
I've heard more than a few versions through the years, but I think what Shatner said not long ago is the truth. All thought TOS he honestly had no idea who Takei was, he was just another extra on the set.

I think I remember reading or hearing that Doohan would not speak to Shatner unless they were doing a scene in character.

What was the issue with Diana Muldaur?

I was watching some convention panel Q&A's and I saw Marina Sirits (Troi) saying she and Dorn didn't really get along and she had to constantly apologize to him (saying this is a mocking way) to not hurt his little feelings. It apparently worked, as she told the cast would hang out all the time after work; if they were in a bar, enevitably they'd all end up together in a booth -- cast only, kind of unintentionally excluding everybody.

Though I get a sense Gates never really got along with everybody and kind of doesn't care for the fans too much.

I saw a couple of conventions where Denise was there. she's seems uncomfortable, shabby looking, and nobody really has any questiosn for her. One of them she was kind of sitting apart from them. There's probably a story there.

It was while Shatner was interviewing castmembers for his book Star Trek Memories. Doohan outright refused to speak to Shatner, and Takei, Nichols, and Koenig decided to use the opportunity to air their grievances with Shatner a bit. Nichols followed through, but Takei reportedly had such a pleasant conversation with Shatner that day that he chickened out.

I believe that Nichols was then upset towards Shatner because he included information about her romantic relationship with Roddenberry in the book and took one of her quotes out of context. IIRC, she didn't talk to him for his follow-up book, Star Trek Movie Memories. Takei did, interestingly enough. So either his animosity towards Shatner has grown since that time or he just plays it up because it's easy publicity for him.

Takei and Nichols both also showed up for the Shatner roast on Comedy Central a few years back. I'd doubt that they'd bother doing that if they had a genuine problem with him.

Couldn't it just be as simple as she did less than a full season of TNG, while the others did seven years and four movies together? Not too surprising if she doesn't have as strong of a bond with them.

For most of the TNG cast, it was 15 years of their life. For Denise Crosby, it was a job she did for less than a year and then a few guest spots thereafter.

Mulgrew and Ryan in Voyager.

Oh, really? Well props to them, because I never picked up on it in the show.

I wonder why they had issues?

Allegedly Mulgrew resented a new cast member being added and the blatant eye-candy costume Ryan had. Mulgrew also wasn't fond of how long Ryan took in makeup & getting touchups throughout the day.

No, I don't buy it. She was a main character, had a love interest with anotehr main character, re-priased her character twice that I know of after her death, and then had a daughter who created a new story line (which was never resolved; also, her sister was even the focus of an entire episode). She was in the series finale for goodness sakes. She voiced herself character at least one Trek game, was in both Trekkies films, and even played a relative Yar in a fan film. Plus she's been in other projects (convention fans don't always ask Trek actors abotu Trek -- there's plenty to ask her about). I've seen lesser bit part guests stars get more attention at conventions via youtube videos. She looks a little uncomfortable and quite frankly, as I remember in one, like she's just walked off the street having been living there for a year. The cast seemed to interact nicely with each other in various conventions, but both times I saw her, she didn't.

 Okay, fine. Everyone in the TNG cast hates her because she ran over Patrick Stewart's dog. Happy now?

I totally just made that up, but since you insist on seeing a secret hidden answer where there likely isn't one...

Maybe she's just uncomfortable doing conventions because she doesn't like public speaking or being the focus of attention as herself. A lot of actors are surprisingly shy and introverted.

For crying out loud, I left a job last year and I don't really talk to anyone from there any more. A few I'm Facebook friends with, but that's it. There's not some big secret reason. Sometimes people just fall out of touch.

They were coworkers in the late 80s, not people who took a blood oath to remain lifelong friends.

WRONG!

Can you not tell that everyone in the TNG cast hated Denise when she didn't get any questions at the convention?

It's obvious!

This isn't a pissing contest. Youtube is free to use. Go there, check out ones where she's with multiple cast members and how she acts. Then check out ones with multiple cast members and she's not there and how they act together. Then go check out videos where there's two or three cast member, including her, and see how she suddenly acts differently.
