Carey Mulligan turned down the opportunity to become a companion

Smith is easily the best thing about Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, though it does feel like he's reprising the Doctor. Unfortunately, he's not in it that much.

The Netflix series is The Crown. He and Claire Foy left the series after two seasons; the plan is to recast the roles every two years so the characters can age. I don't recall if the new actor for Prince Philip has been named. Olivia Coleman is replacing Foy as Elizabeth.

The Crown is very good, Foy is amazing as Elizabeth but Matt's wonderful as Phillip where his ability to channel youthful glee but also old man level grumpiness works perfectly. Also, and I didn't realise this till he grew a beard in season 2, but damn he looks like Prince Harry!

Smith's joked it should be Tennant!

David Tennant has achieved a lot of success with Broadchurch (less so it's Americanized version, Gracepoint) and it's made some impact stateside via PBS, but granted not on the level of Doctor Who. As already discussed, Matt Smith has gotten a lot of praise for his work on The Crown, although Claire Foy (rightfully) has the lion's share of the spotlight. I expect both of their stars to continue to rise.

As far as I know, the actor hasn't been announced yet.

I'm still crossing my fingers for Peter Capaldi to take over the role at some point (it's too early right now).
Capaldi looks nothing like Prince Philip.

^ Haven’t watched the show but in general I think it’s not all that important that an actor is the spitting image of the real-life person they’re playing so long as they channel them well. Hopkins as Nixon is an obvious example.

Smith as Phill the Greek is fantastic, it is a shame they're replacing everyone (I assume everyone) with a new cast for season three.

Well like I said upthread, what is interesting is that once he has a beard in S2 of The Crown you can see a touch of Prince Harry in Matt. I think he channels Phillip very well, although at times I expect him to grin like an idiot and shout "Daleks in Buckhouse, Liz, I'll sort them!"
Matt certainly has had a few moments during both seasons that were very Doctor-y. I don't remember them off the top of my head, but I grinned each time. :D

A shame perhaps, but it makes sense. Plus it'll keep things fresh. As much as I'll miss Claire Foy and Matt Smith, I think the biggest loss will be Vanessa Kirby as Margaret.
