Spoilers Captain Pike

I wouldn't have minded some story arcs.... something tying together all the Earth Duplicates (Miri) or Transplanted Human Cultures (Roman, Native American, Omega Glory).... Naked Time leading directly into Tomorrow is Yesterday.... City creating the Mirror Universe..... or a thread tying all the different Androids together... (Rayna, What are Little Girls Made Of, I Mudd)..... if TOS was redone with today's sensibilities, what kind of storylines or arcs would u tie together, using the actuality of TOS as a baseline?

I've had conversations like that too, but not specifically about Star Trek.

Funny that a "generation gap" would be that wide when it comes to something so simple as a TV show.

An extreme (but funny) example: the fan who was excited to discover that there was a black-and-white BATMAN tv series back in the 1940s and who posted a link to the "season premiere."

Um, that wasn't a TV show because there were no such things back then. There were these things called "movie serials" that played in theaters and they didn't have "pilots" or "season premieres" .:)

I know it was aired in the mid '80s, but I didn't get to see "The Cage" until I picked up the VHS release. Prior to that the only form of "The Cage" I got to see was the James Blish adaptation in Star Trek 4.

The discussion about "The Cage" not being broadcast (until much, much later) is interesting, as it does open up a discussion about it's place as part of the 'official' run or not. Usually if I do watch "The Cage" as a part of my TOS run through, I'll omit "The Menagerie", or vice versa, as I find watching both to be a pretty superfluous experience. ;) ;)

On some level though I've always been enamoured of "The Cage", because I think it almost stands alone as a great sci-fi movie in it's own right (ala 'Forbidden Planet' etc.) I have been known to show it to people as a feature in it's own right. :)

Yes. Back then (from the late 1920s to the late 1940s), television was little more than a laboratory curiosity, and the advent of broadcast television was delayed by a little disagreement we like to call World War II.

TV broadcasts were being experimented with in Britain throughout the 1930s via the BBC, but were ceased when World War II broke out and government money was needed elsewhere.

Technically, you cannot watch many episodes in any order. For example, in WNMHGB, the galactic barrier was encountered by Kirk's 1701 for the 1st time, so watching "By Any Other Name" before it (where Kirk says of the barrier, "Yes, I know. We've been there") would not make sense.

That's very true! Some episodes must be shown before others like as you say WNMHGB and By Any Other Name, as well as Mudd's Women and I Mudd or Balance of Terror and The Enterprise Incident or Errand of Mercy and Trouble With Tribbles! Plus there are many references which must be attended to like Taste of Armageddon in By Any Other Name and Devil in The Dark in That Which Survives as well as The Tholian Web and The Empath in Turnabout Intruder! But then they bring back Lt.Galloway for the final episode who had previously been killed in The Omega Glory and it puts all your hard work down the toilet...:brickwall:

I always found it hard to imagine the Enterprise before Captain Kirk. Even seeing The Menagerie flashbacks it felt weird. I guess it's because I'm so used to seeing the crews board their ships on their maiden voyages like in Encounter At Farpoint and Caretaker. To think Spock served on the Enterprise for 11 years before Kirk took command. He must have seen hundreds of senior and junior officers come and go before Kirk, Bones, Scotty, Sulu and Uhura arrived.

Another reason I do not recognize ENT!
