Confirmation was done via dental records. The plot of The Whole Nine Yards involved getting a dentist to modify a corpse's teeth to match a contract killer's so the killer can get away from his boss.
It seems that the remains were skeletonized awfully quickly.

People didn't have enough time to dig up skeletons from graveyards in the old days?
Even if Laundry-boy fakes his own death, where does he go from there? He'd have to get ahold of some decent plastic surgery, which isn't exactly easy to come by.
I mean, there are guys who just look vaguely like him who are getting pounced by the cops, so he'd have a lot of work to do...

I understand the fascination with conspiracy theories and whatnot, but what have we heard in any of the stories about this case so far that would lead one to believe that Laundrie is some kind of criminal genius who would be capable of pulling off a deception at the level of what is being proposed in this thread?
Exactly…he was a punk. He did have some drawings of Abe Sapien that looked okay. He should have focused on his education.
A lot of folks are over-stimulated now. Growing up with only 3 channels got me going outside…listening to my parents talk about how they were depression babies…long summer vacations. There is an overload of sensory input…no time to dwell on things…to steal a quote…no gentle space of days.
And then..,there is the van. Nothing good happens in vans.
Road trips are rolling encounter groups…where you are in confinement with another person..,like Gemini capsules…a rolling box.
Some of the ugliest fights even well adjusted marriages face happen in road trips…so young couples wind up flailing.
