Borg vs Cybermen

Ok, so this has probably been discussed before, but as I am new to the forum... well I'll apologize in advance.

So who would win in a battle, the Borg or the Cybermen, and why?

The Borg.

Their technology is way beyond the Cybermen. They've been assimilating this and that all across the galaxy. Assimilating the Cybermen would be easy.

Yeah, I'm going to have to give this one to the Borg. After all, the Cybermen's main goal (forgive me for being a nu-Who fan, as I'm basing this solely on what I've seen, their original purpose might differ) is to create a perfect form, which they believe they have. The Borg are still seeking such a form and believe that assimilating other species will aid them.

In a battle between the Borg and the Dalek, I think the Borg have a few advantages, namely their motivation. The Daleks would seek simply to exterminate the Borg, but the Borg would work to assimilate the Daleks. If I'm understanding the Daleks correctly, they were created to be the same, so all it would take would be for the Borg to assimilate one Dalek. After that, combining their power with the Dalek's they'd seek to, perhaps ironically, exterminate the rest of the Daleks, as they would serve no further purpose.

The Daleks would also be at a disadvantage with Davros. While the series four finale showed that the Daleks could subjugate Davros, if he were to be assimilated, the Borg would then understand how Davros created the Daleks, once again rendering their assimilation pointless. Maybe they wouldn't be able to control the Daleks, but they'd have the knowledge they'd need to defeat them.

Of course, it's all over if the Borg were able to assimilate the Doctor and his TARDIS...

The Borg would never be able to assimilate Gallifreyan tech. No way. It's so 'above' the standards of tech they are used to acquiring, a Time Lord's quasi-dimensional toothbrush would probably overload The Collective...

Maybe in the past, but with the current TARDIS, what with egg beaters and typewriters juryrigged together, I find it difficult to believe a Borg couldn't assimilate it.

Now, if you want to make an argument that by assimilating the TARDIS, they'd also assimilate the space-time vortex, then, yeah, I'd have to agree with you.

Of course, maybe the Doctor could destroy the Borg with his sonic screwdriver. By the time they fully cataloged all of the powers the plot has granted that thing, the Doctor would have used that time to find a way to destroy them.

The Borg are more powerful. But the Cybermen are more easily usable as antagonists, since each Cyberman can still function as an individual without the group while the Borg are all stuck with their single-voice thing that makes it hard to re-use them as an enemy more then a few times.

However, seeing the Borg add the Time Lord finned collars to each and every drone certainly adds distinctiveness to their own!

Oh, you mean the outer-trappings of the console itself? Sure, I don't see why not. I'm talking about the actual Gallifreyan technology that is the TARDIS. It's a dimensionally-transcendental temporal transport capsule. It works off an energy source (The Eye of Harmony) originally drawn from a black hole, and now able to convert extradimensional bleed-through energy. It's nigh-indestructible, and can travel to any point and time in existence.

The Borg are cyborgs with a collecting fetish. They might be able to adapt to many different threats. But, when the threat countermands the laws of the physical universe, as they understand it, then there's nothing in their programming that would allow them the capability of assimilating anything that high up the food chain.

Of course, maybe the Doctor could destroy the Borg with his sonic screwdriver. By the time they fully cataloged all of the powers the plot has granted that thing, the Doctor would have used that time to find a way to destroy them.
 Well, true... ;)

Mid-TNG run: Borg (Back when they were scary and cool)

Post-Voyager: Cybermen (After the Borg were neutered)

The Cybermen, with an assist from the Cybermats...which have to be the deadliest thing in their arsenal.

Unless the Borg assimilated a species made of gold--then the Cybermen would fold up like a beach chair.
