We now have a new and more benevolent representation of the Borg Collective, an inter connected collective consciousness of the willing led by a Queen with a multiverse of experiences which give this now centuries old and well established collective hive mind a whole new perspective on humanity, the Federation and inter galactic affairs in general. This collective has the potential to become a major player in the Star Trek universe, championing peace to all species through example. However there is still one hurdle that I can think of that would need to be overcome in order to create a true shared, multi species intergalactic hegemony between this cybernetic species and others which is mutually beneficial to themselves and all other species in the four quadrants and beyond. This development has the potential to shape the entire galaxy in ways that could lead to the kind of peace and intergalactic cooperation never before seen or even imagined yet we still need to address the elephant in the room.

Captain Janeway destroyed much of the original Borg Collective as depicted in the events of the series finale Endgame. The Borg Transwarp Conduits and Unicomplex were obliterated, this destruction cascaded throughout the collective killing trillions of Borg. The Borg Queen was disconnected from the hive mind as a result of Janeway’s neurolytic pathogen which left them all running around like a headless chicken, they lacked effective leadership and just could not function. As a result of this I am sure that whatever remains of the Collective will be lacking leadership - this is where the new more benevolent Queen could perhaps step in.

0634267E-DE41-4C0F-A14F-71F22BE247EF.jpeg We have seen how the ex-Borg drones who survived their species apocalypse were treated by the Federation and other species - with contempt, fear and disdain. We saw several beloved characters brutally killed on screen, Hugh and Icheb being two of them. These characters were also Seven of Nine’s friends and could have been a part of her crew if she were ever to have a spin off show. I think that Geordie Laforge, Guinan and Picard would not be happy by Hugh’s demise either, even though there was a time when Picard wanted to send him back to the collective with a virus too. Icheb was part of the Voyager crew, so I bet that his shipmates and the other children that he grew up with would not be very happy either.

As demonstrated in the Voyager episode Unity, it is possible for a group of different species to live together in a peaceful collective consciousness. I would imagine that this type of collective is something that the ex Borg would possibly want to establish. The new Borg Queen, or whoever succeeds her could help to unite the surviving Borg by being a leading figure, inspiring the Borg to rebuild, ‘Building back better Borg’.

They could then begin to approach other species in the galaxy using their transwarp conduits, stating their peaceful intentions and honouring any agreements that they make with species that they encounter. The Borg travellers could approach other cultures as ‘Ambassadors’; they wouldn’t want to assimilate people in to their collective but they could talk to them about it and discuss the mutual benefits of assimilation in to a collective consciousness, as well as conducting technological and cultural exchanges, sharing knowledge, philosophies and ideas. Just generally creating peaceful relations between themselves and others.

These Borg and their associates could almost be like a ‘guardian at the gate’, working as a collaborative with the Federation and other aligned species to enforce order in the galaxy. The collective may be friends with species that are not in the Federation and who do not ever want to join it, so would be good as a ‘middle man’ so to speak when dealing with species that don’t quite get along yet. Of course, we still have the actual Traveller’s and their Supervisor’s who are also working to enforce universal unity and peace… but they get to do it throughout all of time and space, not just in the present. :D

Perhaps eventually, The Borg Collaborative/collective/Cooperative or whatever it will end up being called could even approach some really unfriendly races such as Species 8472.

This species may want to be left alone in fluidic space, but they have shown an interest in the Borg before and now that they know that a unified galaxy of species is not weak, they might no longer believe that ‘the weak will perish’. They might even want to be voluntarily assimilated in to the Borg Cooperative so that they can enjoy all of it’s benefits?

What do you think?

My first thought when that giant beam came out of the anomaly at the end of PIC S2 was: is 8472 gonna be back in S3? :D

Indeed, this could have been the first (and hopefully last!) example of the Borg Cooperative fighting off a Species 8472 attack.

I wouldn't overstate the Borg's devastation.

After all, the Borg cube in Picard season 1 was dismantled from the Collective because of the Adomination.

We can only go off what is depicted onscreen and try to fill in the blanks with our heads. The full aftermath of Endgame and the Borg was never depicted in canon on screen. If anybody can recommend a good book though? There could still be regular Borg around, but perhaps the Cooperative have some form of diplomatic relations with them and can keep them contained like they might have done with Species 8472 in the season 2 finale?

Anyway, the ‘Admonition’ didn’t collapse the Borg cube, I thought that it was Ramdha’s mind that did that? Maybe if the mind of the person who had experienced it was not affected by it in the same way then the collapse would not have happened? Otherwise this would be a good weapon to use against the Borg, almost like a virus; force someone to experience the Admonition and then send them over to be assimilated thus collapsing the cube. That all seems too easy?

Maybe Ramdha was assimilated on purpose as part of a Tal’Shiar plot to take down Borg cubes?

Captain Janeway destroyed much of the original Borg Collective...

But she didnt destroy the Borg completely. I think the Borg might have incorporated knowledge from the assimilated Voyager crew into the Uni-Matrix, stored the knowledge away in a very secrure location to use against the Federation at a later time.

I also think the Romulans could be behind the newst Borg Queens attempt to assimilate the Q timeline Earth.

FEDERATION COUNCIL DEBRIEFING, CAPTAIN ANNIKA HANSEN, USS ENTERPRISE NCC 1701 E REFIT, FEDERATION EMISSARY TO/FROM THE BORG COOPERATIVE, STARDATE 250000.1

As you are all very well aware, we will not and can not understate the continued existential threats that all species throughout the galaxy are now facing.

After recent galactic events it is quite clear to all that the dynamics of the Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta Quadrants will never be the same.

The Borg Collective have agreed to send out Emissary’s to all major power’s in the galaxy. Ex-Borg drones liberated from the old Collective (originally from each of the species who wish to develop diplomatic communication channels) have been chosen in order to facilitate the building of a level of trust, security and familiarity between our cultures. I have been chosen to be a representative for Humanity due to my past experience, familiarity with the Borg and my neural network interface augmentation which allows for regular communication channels.

Vulcan, Romulan and Dominion Emissary’s have yet to be finalised.

The Borg Transwarp Conduit network has been hacked on a trans dimensional and interphasic level. We are not sure as to who or what has performed this attack on our transwarp network but as recent events have shown, someone now has the capability to use this network against us as a weapon. Despite this potential threat and other recent developments which you have already been briefed about, whole new channels of diplomatic communications and cooperation have been opened with the potential to change galactic affairs for the better, putting past conflicts and disagreements behind us as we face up to these threats and explore each other’s ‘strange new worlds’.

The best scientific and tactical minds from all four quadrants, including Dominion, Vulcan, Romulan and Voth representatives have conducted research and technological exchanges via a series of diplomatic and scientific investigation pertaining to recent Galactic affairs and events using the Enterprise’s new astrometric hub which was also designed using technologies from multiple species. Despite a few cultural misunderstanding, these collaborative efforts achieved many positive outcomes. Further first contacts have also been suggested and agreed upon for Delta Quadrant species whom the USS Voyager and IKS Mogh have already begun to establish successful diplomatic links with.

Back to the threat at hand though, The Cooperative and all other species have agreed that we do indeed face a potentially existential threat, though the nature of this threat is currently unknown.

We have attempted to match the energy signature of the weapon which emanated from the hacked transwarp conduit network to all patterns in our combined database of tactical records, as well as to astrometric records of other potential natural phenomenon.

Two possible conclusions have been reached. Though there is not an exact match to the weapons harmonic frequency as a result of the inter-dimensional nature of the attack corrupting some of the Stargazer’s sensor readings, comparison to records from the USS Enterprise NCC 1701 and the USS Voyager have identified two possible sources of this threat with similar energy signatures.

The USS Voyager has been witness to a similar attack before on stardate 51003.7, by an extra dimensional race that the Borg have designated as Species 8472, this attack as depicted behind me destroyed an entire world. Millions of drones were destroyed.

E300D047-EE2A-444C-8925-77AEAFF3BCAD.jpeg As you can see from the evidence as presented to you all in this room, the attempted attack and the scientific forensic information collected afterwards is highly reminiscent of that collected by the USS Voyager during their first encounter with this species .

Another possibility that can not be dismissed is derived from similarities between the energy weapon used in this attack and an encounter that the USS Enterprise had under the command of James T Kirk on stardate 4202.1, where an unidentified threat which has infamously been recorded as being a ‘Doomsday Machine’ was encountered on the ships second five year mission.

If there is a link between this ‘Doomsday’ device and species 8472 it is unclear, but perhaps the weapon technology was developed in parallel by two separate species, with them both developing the same or similar technology independently. Hopefully we will come to a more solid conclusion after further investigation.

To prevent such incidents from occurring again, The Borg Cooperative, Federation and all aligned species have agreed to send a contingent of diplomats, scientists, communications and tactical specialists to all transwarp conduit gateways throughout the galaxy. The structure of this will replicate the successful exploratory, diplomatic and tactical models of the space station Deep Space Nine and it’s crews interventions in the aftermaths of the Cardassian occupation of Bajor and the Dominion war as well as the discovery of the Bajoran wormhole. This model, as successfully demonstrated and commanded by Captain Benjamin Sisko (whereabouts currently unknown), has been agreed upon by all political parties from each aligned species involved in our cooperative diplomatic efforts as a way to move forward. :D
