Best space battle scenes in a movie?

ReadyAndWilling

Fleet Captain
hey all, i'm looking at picking up a blu-ray movie and was trying to think up a movie with a really awesome battle scene between spaceships. i was just watching the DVD of ST: Nemesis and it was pretty damn good, it's the one i'm considering on Blu-Ray right now. the other one is SW: RoTS, but the scenes between ships were relatively short. i loved the scenes in SG1, but the two movies were a little weak and underwhelming for me. i'm not even sure if SG1 is available on blu-ray.

what do you guys recommend i look at to really get the most out of Blu-Ray?

thanks

How about the space battle scene in Serenity? Its still the craziest space battle I have seen in a long while.

And if you don't mind anime space fighter battles, there's Macross Frontier. Of note is episode 7 where the show used almost the entire 20 minutes introducing the capabilities of the various vertech fighter variants as well as the bomber and carrier's offensive power in a huge space battle. Another noteworthy battle is in the series finale, a two-parter that consist of mostly space battles.

The fleet battles from NuBSG are the best looking of anything recent. I'm still waiting for movies to catch up, don't let me down Ender's Game!

One of the big let downs of the Star War prequels was the lack of a good space battle. The ones in Phantom Menace and Revenge of the Sith were pretty, but lacked substance.

The Federation fleet attack on the Borg cube at the beginning of First Contact is short but sweet - and definitely pops on Blu-ray!

Ship dog fight: Defineatly NEMESIS. It's awesome. And the longest space battle in movie history.

Fleet vs fleet: RETURN OF THE JEDI and REVENGE OF THE SITH.

If DS9 was aviable on Blu Ray I would add "Sacrifice of Angels" to the mix.

I'd say the battle in ROTJ is better than the one in ROTS. The opening battle in ROTS did nothing me. Sure it was a good piece of CGI but aside from that it fell flat.

It is incredible how the SFX from TESB and ROTJ stood the test of time.
I just finished watching the saga on Blu Ray, and the go motion effects look incredible. The detail is fantastic. The CG models in ROTS are finally as detailed as the real models build for the OT.

Still from a technical point of view the scene with all the TIE's in ROTJ is better than the CGI we got in ROTS.

You knew that one mistake and they would have to go back and refilm each element again.

Not an easy question. The finale fight of The Last Starfighter was pretty cool, a lot of nuBSG was neat and the big fight when
Sheridan finally faces off against the incoming Earth fleet and Delenn has to bail his ass out
is a personal favorite.
Then there's the Reaver/Alliance/Serenity fight in Serenity. Pretty cool stuff. On the other hand, the fight in the nebula in ST:WOK is neat , even though it involves only two ships.

My favorites remain the Enterprise and the Romulan Bird of Prey in the TOS episode Balance of Terror and the Enterprise and the Reliant in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

Both battles have more of a slow nautical feeling to them and I like that.

is a personal favorite.
Then there's the Reaver/Alliance/Serenity fight in Serenity.

I forgot about that one - yea - that's a great battle scene. Some of my favorite scenes also are The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi when the giant super star destroyer is under attack.

nuBSG vs. cylon battles, in my opinion. Best I've seen.

Yeah, they had some great sequences. I think the scene below was the biggest "WOW" moment of the series forr me.
