Bajorian Uniforms?

GalaxyClass1701

Captain
Captain
Is there a breakdown of what each means.

If I had to guess.

Tan: Security
Red: Comnand
Grey: Engineering

Then there is a Grey and green one not sure what that would be?

Well, in this "Shakaar" shot of a rebel-hunting party, the division of labor between grey and red does not appear to reflect a division into commanding officers and infantrymen...

Also, the top officers in command of the field army of the Militia wore grey rather than red:

We might perhaps argue that we're seeing two branches of the military here: red is for Space Forces, and grey is for Ground Forces, and every time the two are seen mixed, it's a joint operation where the two services cover for each other's inevitable shortcomings in the era of "provisional" governance.

Perhaps the Ground Forces would have their own medics with blue chests on grey rather than red?

The Memory Alpha entry on Bajoran Militia uniforms breaks the colors down as follows:

Rust / medium maroon = Command division

Purple / orange & yellow-green / brown = Medical division

Gray / dark gray = Operations division

Green / warm gray = Sciences division

Brown / beige = Security division

My only issue with the Memory Alpha article is that when the Bajorans try to take back DS9 even the senior officers wear grey uniforms. I think it was done as a way to distinguish the invading Bajorans from the crew that remained loyal to Sisko but not sure about what the canon explanation would be.

Since there is no canon explanation, the one above could work well enough: grey is for the Ground Army, red is for the Space Navy, and the working environment of DS9 is exotic enough that both services are working side by side there. The attempt to take DS9 from Starfleet and the Space Militia federalists would be conducted by the Army exclusively, though.

Grey is good generic infantry camouflage (it worked for most of the WWII combatants), but red only works in certain rare outdoors settings and thus is more likely to be the color of an "indoors" military branch.

Certainly nothing indicates that the Bajoran uniform colors would denote department or occupation or skill set. If they denote branches of military, then it's only natural that two people of different color would have the same skill set and profession.

Let's not forget Kira's uniform from season 4 and onwards, I mean where does that fit into all this?

Well, the Bajoran fighting force went from a provisional government's militia to the armed forces of a state with an elected government at some point. Getting rid of the old uniforms would have given employment to all those textile artists who had been temping as freedom fighters and were now out of that job, too.

Maybe Kira had license to modify her uniform because she was an important representative, and had to look her best.

Maybe they just didn't have a lot of regulations with them since Bajor was still getting back on it's feet.

Probably so as to not get too confusing.
Kira- wears red to be like Starfleet command red
Nurse of the week- wears brown with lots of blue, indigo, etc to be like Starfleet medical blue
Odo- wears brown, brown is actually just a really dark yellow (Starfleet security gold) spectrally speaking
Gray... they're extras, they're not supposed to soak up the limelight

And gray makes for decent camouflage on a space station.

I think that color signifies some kind of "special forces" division.
