Anno 1404: Dawn of Discovery

Picked it up the other day and my wife dislikes it. She was the one who fiured out how to play Anno back in 1602 when I was like WTF is going on. She enjoyed 1503 ok, and loved 1701. She claim 1404 is too complex for an anno game and I somewhat agree.

I enjoy it and so do the kids, but it does feel "larger" than any other Anno game which is ok, its different but just as frustraiting as any other anno game.

Did anyone else pick up the game, and what do you think?

I've ordered it from Amazon, it should be here next week sometime. I'll let you know, I've got a three day weekend coming up from working this holiday weekend, so I'm sure I'll be trying it out. I really liked 1701.

It's been getting quite good reviews. Anno was very much a streamlined and simplified game, so it would be quite a change if 1404 was complex. I nmust try out the demo at some point.

1404 is much larger. You in reality play two games of anno at once. One with your typical northern town and an Orient town in the south. You can choose either or to a point alough the northen town needs the southern town for soome goods, but I have yet to see the orient need anything from the north.

I really like this game but am extremely frustrated with the lack of information in the manual. There are things happening in this game that I don't quite get yet, and a manual would help.

It's a very beautifully designed game though, and the graphics are top notch. But if you aren't the type that likes a strong economic centered builders game, this might not be for you. Even on the easy level it gets difficult to manage your economy.

Edit: I found a downloadable guide for 20 bucks at the link below. I haven't been through the entire guide yet, but it looks pretty good so far.

No need to purchase anything, go here: (http://forums-de.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/frm/f/5251042375). There you can ask any question you ever would want. I can help in PMs if you want as well.

The Copy Protection controversy put me off this to be honest.

I think it has resulted in a huge backlash from fans of the series.

Thanks for that. I set up an account so I could post. I've got a grand total of three posts on that board now!

To your point though, if you post a question, someone usually gets back with you in less than a day. I still like the manual, although something like should have came with the game. The manual lists all the costs associated with the buildings, and that helps in planning.
