All things RED Dwarf

I like the later series episodes such as Timeslides, Meltdown and Gunman Of The Apocalypse but will always have a soft spot for series 1 and 2 because it reminds me of watching them when they were first broadcast. Better Than Life and Stasis Leak are my favourite episodes.

I used to dislike Thanks For The Memory because of the negative tone of the episode but it’s become a favourite mainly for Holly suggesting aliens invaded the ship and completed a jigsaw Lister was working on.

“and then they did a jigsaw”

One of the highlights of the entire series is Tongue Tied. I knew at the time Danny John-Jules was an all rounder from Maid Marion And Her Merry Men where his character would sing, act and dance but after Tongue Tied I was in awe of The Cat.

If they ever return to earth the whole crew deserve a KBE and a triple fried egg, chilli sauce and chutney sandwich. Trust me.

I miss the good old days of PBS back in 1996 and 1997 where it was all about Red Dwarf and Red Green.

these days theres nothing on PBS excep trash like Amanpour and Company, NOVA which isnt even cool anymore like it was during the early mid 1980s; Shakespeare and Hathaway, and Frankie Drake Mysteries

More accurately, there’s legal issues between Doug Naylor and Grant Naylor, the company via the other owners/directors of the company. Of which Rob Grant is one. It’s not as simple just Naylor v Grant.
Oh, I wasn’t aware of that.

to be honest, after the writing duo split up the quality of the various series diminished. (My opinion, mind you). And then Doug decided he could direct also….

the early series were absolutely brilliant.

By enormous coincidence, I just finished a rewatch of series I - VIII (all included on Amazon Prime Video here in the UK).

Like a lot of fans, I'd previously noted and accepted a huge quality drop from I - VI and VII/VIII, but rewatching them... I think I (and most of fandom) were too hard on those last two series previously. Yes, they can't hit the highs of some of the III - VI material, but not much could. There is still a lot to enjoy in VII and VIII, and still some genuinely laugh-out loud moments.

I felt a similar drop in quality when first watching the "Dave" years, but am willing to give them another chance as well...

I have been watching the remastered version on Britbox Canada. Don't like it as much as the originals. They cut out the line "Forget red, let's go all the way up to brown alert"
Etc etc

Yeah, it was the other directors of the company stepping in where they felt that Naylor had been mis-managing the company, making it less or even non-profitable.

They way it all went down made it sound for half a day like Grant was taking up the typewriter again. But since then, zilch.

Grant’s The Quanderhorn Experimentations for BBC radio are worth a listen, btw.

In terms of solo work, I always much preferred Grant’s (Colony, Incompetence and Fat are all brilliant) and felt he brought more of what I engage with to Dwarf. But, these days I think it was the two of them together which was the real strength.

I've always loved seasons 1 and 2. Soft spot for 7 as it's the first I actually saw on TV apart from the last episode of 6.

I quite like season 10. Got back to the simpler style of stories. The episodes in 8 that didn't try to be part of some grander narrative were also great. Not UpToDate with the last couple

Now THERE's a crossover for ya. :guffaw:

Kryten: "I'm an android. But I can change. If I have to. I guess."

Red Green: "We'll smash that Talkie Toaster so bad we couldn't even fix it with duct tape!"

I would like to see that show!

Maybe Red Green could try to fix Holly. On second thought, maybe not.

Maybe Red's nephew Harold could fix Holly...

I wonder who's a better fibber - Rimmer or Hap Shaughnessy?

Those two would actually get along pretty well, I think!
