A bit of a random question but what do people think of Nikola Tesla?

I read a biography about him a few years ago and he was definitely an interesting and somewhat eccentric guy. I can understand why some people see him as a bit of a hero though I don’t have that view of him myself.

He was kind to pigeons.

He was an eccentric genius, quite possibly somewhere on the ASD spectrum even if he was born too early to be diagnosed. I'm glad he beat Thomas Edison in the AC vs. DC battle because AC's far more efficient than DC, especially over long distances. We wouldn't have international power grids with DC.

But some of his big ideas didn't sit well with the industrialists of his time.

From what I have gathered, reading and viewing, he got Royally Screwed by ole’ Thomas Alva!

Plus, electrocuting animals to prove his “point”.

Yeah that part is a downer, the book I am reading now is "Tesla: man out of time" by Margaret Cheney so far interesting read

My grandfather was fascinated by Tesla. He was a really interesting guy. The Oatmeal comic once did a "why Tesla was better then Edison" strip that was awesome and well worth looking up.

I never believed in the more outrageous claims made about him.

A pity that bright individuals like him were so very badly used.

That would depend on which outrageous claims, of which there are many.
