1968 Starship Enterprise toy made by Mattel?

Hey everyone,
I have a fan trying to contact me through my publisher asking if I know about and what the possible value of a 1968 Starship Enterprise toy made by Mattel would be. Now this is the first that I have ever heard of this so I am thinking they just have a toy mix up. The only thing that comes close to this description I know of from around that time is the Remco Flying Enterprise Disc (Frisbee) from 1967. I am not aware of Mattel making any Star Trek toys in the '60's.
But I also understand that there are toys out there I am not aware of, though they are usually a little more current toys than something from the 1960's which were few and far between back then.
So has anyone else ever owned, seen or at least heard of this?
I'm thinking not but hey, I have been wrong before
Steve

Never heard of such. Ever.

Considering Trek was not marketed to kids until well into syndication, I find the idea of a toy produced in '68 highly unlikely.

A frisbee or something, ok. But an actual toy? Nope, don't think so.

From everything I know, the first toys came in the 1970s along side TAS which was marketed to kids.

If I remember correctly, there was a model of Enterprise that you could buy and build, complete with battery operated lighting. This was sometime in the late '60's as my brother bought one, put it together, and had it hanging in his room. I may not have been a Mattel item, though.

^The model is still available, in its umpteenth version. It was just recently reissued by the current owners of the AMT company name.

And yeah, the model is the only thing I can think of that was available at the time.

If that's what he's looking for a value on, check evilbay for the old AMT/Ertl kit. But I imagine the recent reissue has killed the collector value.

once again..do you know about the blueprint. This item may not be availible for much longer and I don't wanna miss out.Id really appreciate your imput.please I don't know much about it and I don't wanna get ripped off.

What are you talking about?

I swear I've seen a picture of that thing, and I'm pretty sure it came out at around that time you're talking about.

The original run I would imagine to be obscenely expensive these days.

Hey, I didn't know that Enterprise model had battery operated lighting. Pretty cool.

The very first release was designed to illuminate both the sensor domes upon the primary saucer and the warp pod hemispheres.

Here's a detailed "historical" about the kit and how it evolved.

My first purchase of the kit in 1973 still employed the "loop and securing pin" method to attach the nacelles. Oy! That design was especially prone to "sagging" warp pods!

I had hoped the Round2 re-issue would have provided translucent warp pod hemispheres even if no lighting elements had been included. Builders could have employed a variety of "tricks" to showcase them. Forbin, you're the modeling guru here. How difficult would it have been to cast the existing dome pieces in a translucent material?

Sincerely,

Bill

shouldn't have been a problem, but I think Polar Lights' goal was to get the kit out there, in it's most recent available tooling, and get some cash flow going for new projects.

Determined modelers should be able to get clear or clear-red resin replacements at federationmodels.com. I haven't checked to see if he has any at the moment, though.

About 12 bucks... it's a current toy of the 1968 version of the Enterprise.
